For this guide, the coverage period is September 1, 2011–August 31, 2012. This follows the September-to-September grouping used by some episode catalogues. However, I could not verify both dates in an accessible official CBS archive or on the soap’s official YouTube channel, so they should be treated as working boundaries rather than confirmed CBS season dates. There is a genuine numbering discrepancy: TheTVDB starts Season 39 on August 29, 2011, whereas other catalogues start it on September 1. Sony’s July 2012 announcement does officially confirm that the programme was then in its 39th season, but does not establish its precise opening and closing dates. Main storylines

Billy’s disappearance, Delia’s leukemia and Victor’s manipulation. Delia’s diagnosis brings Billy’s absence into painful focus. Victor finds him imprisoned in Myanmar and arranges his return under conditions designed to keep him away from Victoria. Main plots

Stephanie’s cancer changes her relationship with Brooke.
Stephanie receives a lung cancer diagnosis and initially refuses treatment. Brooke becomes her confidante and determined advocate. Their encounters with people experiencing homelessness, particularly Dayzee, give Stephanie a renewed sense of purpose. Thomas and Brooke’s “Taboo” campaign becomes a family catastrophe.
Their provocative professional partnership creates tension with Ridge and Taylor. After surviving a plane crash, Thomas and Brooke are stranded on an island and eat hallucinogenic berries. Thomas subsequently claims that they had sex. Stephanie encourages the deception, hoping to reunite Ridge and Taylor, while Thomas stands to benefit through Forrester shares. The season opens with the consequences of Victor’s decision to bring Patty Williams back into Jack’s life under the identity of Mary Jane Benson. Katherine’s “death,” Marge’s identity and the Chancellor family

Katherine’s memory problems lead to a major identity mystery involving her lookalike, Marge Cotrooke. Following a car crash, Marge dies and is mistaken for Katherine, while Katherine survives with amnesia. Murphy takes her in, believing she is Marge.

Amber becomes central to proving Katherine’s identity. DNA tests initially appear to discredit Katherine because they show no biological relationship with Jill. The eventual explanation overturns an earlier revelation: Katherine and Jill are not mother and daughter. That also means Billy and Mackenzie are not cousins, reopening their romantic possibilities. Main plots

Brooke’s recovery and Stephanie’s responsibility

The season opens with the aftermath of Brooke’s sexual assault by Andy Johnson. Brooke struggles with trauma, while Ridge supports her recovery. Stephanie’s actions before the assault become a major source of conflict: Brooke and her family confront her over having enabled Andy to gain access to Brooke.

Ridge becomes engaged to Ashley but ultimately chooses Brooke. Stephanie’s involvement in Brooke’s ordeal also contributes to the breakdown of her marriage to Eric. The Bold and the Beautiful

Jack’s birth and the embryo mix-up
