September 2009–September 2010 · U.S. broadcasts

This guide follows your September-to-September format, covering September 8, 2009, through September 3, 2010. Dates refer to the original U.S. broadcasts, rather than the Canadian broadcasts, which sometimes aired earlier.

1. Number of episodes

First original episode	Last original episode	Total
September 8, 2009 — #9227	September 3, 2010 — #9478	252 episodes

The total is calculated from the continuous episode numbers: 9478 − 9227 + 1 = 252. Although some databases list September 7 as the season’s opening date, CBS preempted its daytime lineup that day for the U.S. Open. The first original episode in this September block therefore aired on September 8. TheTVDB’s apparent total of 113 episodes reflects an incomplete listing. TVmaze

No additional dated crossover involving an established Forrester or Logan character was confirmed for September 8, 2009–September 3, 2010. Sarah, Daisy and Ryder’s connection to Sheila Carter is shared continuity between the soaps; it does not establish a Sheila appearance during this season.

Characters credited without a surname

Character	Actor
Serge	portrayed by Jim J. Bullock

Serge returns for the August 2009 fashion-challenge episodes. Week of June 29

Child-casting qualification: historical sources disagree about the timing and even the spelling of the Nigbor twins’ credits as Jack. The broad cast lists place Edward and James Nigbor in 2009–2010, but I could not securely establish the exact handover from the Carr twins within this September–August period. Both sets are therefore listed with that reservation. en.wikipedia.org

Bill Spencer Sr. is discussed below because his death drives an important storyline. His offscreen death does not, by itself, establish a new onscreen appearance by Jim Storm during this period.

Main storylines

Eric, Donna and Stephanie: the aftermath of Eric’s coma

The season opens with the consequences of Pam’s campaign against Donna and Eric’s recovery from his coma. Donna’s marriage remains under pressure from Stephanie’s continuing attachment to Eric and the Forresters’ hostility towards her. Owen’s closeness to Donna further complicates matters.

Pam’s behaviour receives a medical explanation when doctors discover a brain tumour in October 2008. Her relationship with Stephanie remains central as the family deals with the consequences of her actions. imdb.com

Nick, Bridget and Katie: a pregnancy destroys a marriage

Katie’s pregnancy exposes her encounter with Nick and destroys Bridget’s renewed marriage to him. Bridget steps aside, while Nick and Katie attempt to build a relationship.

Katie subsequently suffers a miscarriage in early October 2008. Her grief includes an intense attachment to baby Jack. Although she and Nick continue together for a time, their relationship ultimately fails, clearing the way for Nick and Bridget’s reunion. Fandom

Phoebe discovers the painful extent of Rick’s involvement with her mother, Taylor, and his behaviour towards Steffy. A confrontation in Rick’s car ends in a crash.

Rick and Steffy’s forbidden relationship

Despite the circumstances of Phoebe’s death, Rick and Steffy become romantically involved. Steffy rejects Marcus’s marriage proposal, and her relationship with Rick provokes outrage from Ridge, Taylor and Stephanie.

Rick also steals Forrester designs and supplies them to Jackie M. His actions entangle his personal campaign against Ridge with the rivalry between the fashion houses. His confession further damages his standing within the family. The Bold and the Beautiful

Thomas’s hostility becomes dangerous: he sets fire to Rick’s beach house and sabotages his car. Meanwhile, Ridge and Taylor obtain a recording exposing Rick’s damaging statements about his motives for pursuing Steffy. soapoperadigest.com

Eric fires Stephanie from Forrester Creations. Nick offers her a position at Jackie M, placing the Forrester matriarch on the opposing side of the fashion war.

Bridget also develops a new professional identity as the designer “Madame X.” Jackie M becomes a substantial rival, bringing together characters whose family and romantic loyalties remain deeply divided. The Bold and the Beautiful

Jackie and Owen’s unexpected romance

Jackie falls for the much younger Owen, provoking Nick’s suspicion and opposition. Their romance leads to a Hawaiian wedding on July 3, 2009.

Later, a humiliating television interview threatens their marriage. Owen explains that his identical twin, Casper, impersonated him. Jackie’s reaction—including a kiss with Whip—creates another crisis for the newlyweds. The Bold and the Beautiful

Bill Spencer Jr. arrives

Bill Spencer Sr.’s death introduces a new power structure at Spencer Publications. His son, Bill Spencer Jr., arrives on May 12, 2009, becoming a formidable opponent for the Forresters.

His business ambitions increasingly intersect with his attraction to Katie Logan. Their relationship begins during this period, but their wedding belongs to the following September–August season. en.wikipedia.org

Ridge and Brooke marry in January, but Phoebe’s death and Rick’s relationship with Steffy repeatedly divide them. Ridge’s reliance on medication and his sexual encounter with Taylor lead to another separation from Brooke.

Ridge subsequently prepares to marry Taylor. Brooke interrupts the ceremony on horseback, and the marriage is called off. James Warwick later attempts to help Brooke and Taylor address their destructive rivalry. soapoperadigest.com

Beth’s illness becomes increasingly significant as the season closes. Her Alzheimer’s diagnosis adds a family crisis to the Logan sisters’ romantic and professional conflicts. The storyline continues beyond August 2009. The Bold and the Beautiful

Y&R / B&B Crossovers

Y&R characters appearing in B&B

Character	Actor	Date / nature of appearance
Ashley Abbott	portrayed by Eileen Davidson	Her existing B&B run concludes during this period. Her final appearance is November 25, 2008, when she resigns from Forrester Creations.

Ashley’s November appearance closes her Los Angeles storyline after her return to Y&R. It is the relevant confirmed Y&R-character appearance in B&B for this period. en.wikipedia.org

B&B characters appearing in Y&R

Character	Actor	Date / nature of crossover
Deacon Sharpe	portrayed by Sean Kanan	July 10, 2009 — begins his Y&R run in Genoa City, becoming involved in the Daniel Romalotti art-forgery storyline and reconnecting with Amber.

Deacon’s move is a character crossover, even though he had been absent from B&B for several years. Some retrospective pages give conflicting dates; July 10 is supported by the actor’s career record and contemporary-era reporting. en.wikipedia.org

Two distinctions matter here:

• Don Diamont’s arrival as Bill Spencer Jr. is not a crossover. Bill is a different character from Y&R’s Brad Carlton.
• Amber Moore is already established on Y&R. Her continuing presence there is not a new crossover during this season; her return to B&B occurs in 2010. en.wikipedia.org

2. Main storylines

Katherine’s “death,” Marge’s identity and the Chancellor family

Katherine’s memory problems lead to a major identity mystery involving her lookalike, Marge Cotrooke. Following a car crash, Marge dies and is mistaken for Katherine, while Katherine survives with amnesia. Murphy takes her in, believing she is Marge.

Amber becomes central to proving Katherine’s identity. DNA tests initially appear to discredit Katherine because they show no biological relationship with Jill. The eventual explanation overturns an earlier revelation: Katherine and Jill are not mother and daughter. That also means Billy and Mackenzie are not cousins, reopening their romantic possibilities. Fandom

Clint Radison returns with Roger and Annie Wilkes. Their schemes involve Esther, Katherine’s fortune and Katherine’s captivity. Clint subsequently terrorizes Kevin, whose childhood trauma resurfaces as he is forced into criminal activity. Katherine eventually regains her life and marries Murphy. en.wikipedia.org

Billy, Chloe, Cane and Mackenzie

Billy returns to Genoa City and discovers that Chloe’s baby, supposedly Cane’s, is actually his. Delia’s birth exposes the paternity deception, allowing Cane and Lily to reunite.

Billy and Chloe marry, but Mackenzie’s return complicates their relationship immediately. Once the supposed blood relationship between Billy and Mac is disproved, their unfinished love story becomes a major obstacle to Billy’s marriage. Soap Opera Digest

Phillip is alive—and Cane is an impostor

The season rewrites Chancellor history again when Phillip Chancellor III is revealed to be alive. Cane is not Jill’s long-lost son: he has participated in a deception connected to Phillip.

Phillip’s return forces him to confront Jill, Nina and his son, Chance. He explains that he is gay and fled the life expected of him. Chance returns as a young adult, bringing another generation of the family into the story. TVmaze

Victor, Ashley and Adam’s manipulation

Still grieving Sabrina, Victor reconnects with Ashley in Paris. Their reunion develops into another marriage.

Adam’s revenge against Victor increasingly targets Ashley. He manipulates her surroundings and exploits Sabrina’s memory to undermine her mental stability. Ashley loses her pregnancy, but Adam conceals what has happened, allowing her to continue believing she is pregnant. He also uses Rafe’s attraction to him to divert suspicion from his activities. soapcentral.com

Sharon, Nick, Phyllis and Jack

Nick and Sharon’s unresolved feelings destabilize their marriages. Their Paris reunion deepens the conflict with Phyllis and Jack.

Sharon’s emotional deterioration includes stealing and increasingly erratic choices. Her pregnancy creates a paternity mystery involving Nick, Jack and Billy. Summer’s medical crisis further complicates Nick’s attempt to choose between Sharon and his family with Phyllis. soapcentral.com

Mary Jane Benson is Patty Williams

Victor brings “Mary Jane Benson” into Jack’s orbit as part of his campaign against him. She is eventually revealed as Patty Williams, Jack’s former wife and Paul’s sister.

Patty’s obsession with Jack becomes dangerous. Her actions include harming Summer, while her increasingly unstable behavior creates a crisis that continues beyond this season’s early-September endpoint. en.wikipedia.org

Brad’s death

During the winter storm storyline, Brad saves Noah after he falls through the ice. Brad dies following the rescue, leaving Colleen and Abby grieving and changing the balance of the Carlton, Abbott and Newman families. wiki.sizzltek.com

Neil, Karen, Tyra and Ana

Neil and Karen marry, but their efforts to care for Ana become entangled with Tyra’s custody battle and her attraction to Neil. Karen’s wish to adopt Ana intensifies the conflict.

Neil’s involvement with Tyra destroys his marriage. Later revelations about Tyra’s family background also complicate her relationship with Devon. kiwix.scoggi.net

Lily’s cancer diagnosis

After marrying Cane, Lily discovers that his identity is a lie. Their relationship faces another major test when she is diagnosed with ovarian cancer, raising fears about her survival and her ability to have children. Fandom

Daniel, Amber and Deacon

Daniel becomes entangled in an art-related criminal investigation involving an impostor posing as federal agent Howard Aucker. Deacon’s arrival brings Amber’s B&B history directly into her Genoa City life, and he uses Daniel’s predicament to exert pressure on her. Daytime Confidential

Jack’s birth and the embryo mix-up

Taylor gives birth to Nick’s son, Jack, on October 15, 2007. When the baby develops a serious medical condition, tests reveal that Brooke is his biological mother, because her egg was mistakenly used during Taylor’s fertility treatment.

Brooke helps save Jack through a bone-marrow donation. Taylor struggles with the discovery and with bonding with the baby; Brooke’s attachment to Jack creates further conflict among Brooke, Taylor, Nick and Ridge. The Bold and the Beautiful

Taylor and Nick separate

Taylor’s distress over Jack’s biological parentage intensifies. Her drinking and emotional instability lead to concerns about the baby’s care. Nick seeks James Warwick’s help, but his marriage to Taylor breaks down. Taylor subsequently becomes involved with Rick, a relationship that provokes strong reactions from Brooke and Phoebe. The Bold and the Beautiful

Who shot Stephanie?

Stephanie is shot at Forrester Creations on November 21, 2007. Several members of the Logan family fall under suspicion, and Stephen is arrested after evidence is found in his hotel room.

Nick supports Katie during her illness and takes her to Catalina Island. Believing that she may be dying, Katie becomes intimate with him. Bridget’s experimental treatment helps Katie recover.

Nick then remarries Bridget, but Katie discovers that she is pregnant with his child. This sets up the next major crisis in their relationships. The Bold and the Beautiful

Donna’s secret son

Marcus arrives and asks Donna whether she is his biological mother. Donna admits that she gave him up for adoption when she was young.

She tries to bring him into her life while fearing the reaction of Eric and his children. Steffy befriends Marcus, and their relationship develops as the truth about his parentage emerges. The Bold and the Beautiful

Recasts and SORAS

Character	Change	Date	Classification
Steffy Forrester	Alex Hoover → Jacqueline MacInnes Wood	June 4, 2008	Return with an older actress and a young-adult presentation. Steffy had already undergone earlier aging, so this is not her first SORAS.
Beth Logan	Nancy Burnett → Robin Riker	June 18, 2008	Adult character recast on her return.
Jack Marone	Cameron and McKenzie Carr → Edward and Jake Nigbor	May 2008, according to historical child-cast records	Infant recast; no adult SORAS.
Dominick “Dino” Damiano	Eric and Jacob Steinberger → Andrew and Jacob Scotto	2008, exact date uncertain	Child recast; no major aging established.

Steffy’s casting also changes the presentation of the twins: Steffy and Phoebe are treated as fraternal rather than identical twins. en.wikipedia.org

Two important changes happened before this season’s September boundary:

• Rick: Kyle Lowder had already replaced Justin Torkildsen earlier in 2007.
• Katie: Heather Tom had taken over the role in late August 2007.

They are therefore the established actors at the beginning of this guide, rather than recasts occurring within it. Wikipedia

3. Main plots

Taylor’s confession, trial and relationship with Thorne

Darla’s fatal accident occurred before this season window, but its consequences dominate the opening months. Taylor becomes romantically involved with the grieving Thorne while concealing that she was driving the car that struck Darla. Shane possesses crucial information about the accident and pressures Phoebe. Taylor eventually faces trial, with Storm representing her. Thorne’s feelings for Taylor survive the revelation, but Aly’s distress becomes a major obstacle to their planned marriage. The Bold and the Beautiful

Nick takes control of Forrester Creations

Jackie falls during a confrontation with Stephanie. Nick uses the threat of Stephanie’s prosecution to force the Forresters to sell their company. Brooke rejects his treatment of the family, contributing to the end of their marriage. Eric and his family establish Forrester Originals, creating a competing fashion house. The business rivalry becomes inseparable from the conflict between the Forresters and the Marones. The Bold and the Beautiful

Stephanie confronts her childhood abuse

Therapy with Taylor leads Stephanie to reveal that her father, John Douglas, abused her and that her mother failed to protect her. Eric accompanies her to Chicago, where she confronts Ann and reconnects with Pam. The storyline introduces both women and uses flashbacks to show the family’s past. paramountpressexpress.com

Rick and Phoebe’s romance

Rick returns from Paris, now played by Kyle Lowder, and falls for Phoebe. Ridge strongly opposes the relationship. Although Rick and Phoebe are not biologically related, their complicated family connections create conflict. Events during the Sydney trip worsen the hostility between Ridge and Rick and undermine Ridge’s reconciliation with Brooke. Constantine later enters Phoebe’s life through her singing ambitions. The Bold and the Beautiful

Ashley joins the Forresters

Ashley Abbott arrives to work on the fragrance line for Forrester Originals. Her previous connection with Rick complicates matters, while she develops a romance with Ridge. Abby subsequently joins her mother in Los Angeles. Wikipedia

Shane’s death and the criminal investigation

Shane’s obsession with Phoebe culminates in a confrontation with Ridge. A gun discharges during their struggle, killing Shane. Ridge disposes of the body using Nick’s boat, leading to suspicion falling on Nick. Ridge later faces arrest, and Christine Blair crosses over from Y&R to represent him. Fandom

Nick and Taylor marry and pursue parenthood

Taylor’s professional involvement with Nick becomes romantic. They marry despite Brooke’s efforts to reclaim him. They then pursue IVF using a donor egg, with Bridget involved medically. The pregnancy develops during this window, but the birth and the full consequences of the egg mix-up occur afterward. IMDb

Brooke loses custody and is raped by Andy

Brooke’s difficulties lead to a custody battle over Hope and R.J. Stephanie encourages Andy Johnson to pursue Brooke and gives him information that helps him reach her. Andy attacks and rapes Brooke in August 2007. Brooke subsequently tells Bridget what happened. This is a sexual assault storyline, not a consensual relationship. Résumé et réactions| Soap-Passion

Donna pursues Thorne

Donna becomes involved with Thorne partly to retaliate against Stephanie for her treatment of Brooke. Their engagement develops toward the end of the window. Katie returns as the family prepares for the wedding; its eventual cancellation belongs to the following September period. en.wikipedia.org

R.J. Forrester	Preston and Trevor Shores → Ridge Perkett	June 2007, according to contemporary appearance records. A child-to-child recast.
Dino Damiano	Overlapping credits for the Scotto and Steinberger twins	Changes are recorded in 2006–2007, but exact dates remain uncertain. No adult SORAS.

Lowder’s January 25 debut was announced contemporaneously; Heather Tom’s August 30 debut is also well documented. Casting Coup

Phoebe’s change from Addison Hoover to MacKenzie Mauzy occurred in June 2006, before this window. Jacqueline MacInnes Wood’s adult Steffy debut occurs in 2008, afterward. Steffy is therefore not included as an active character in this roster. en.wikipedia.org

5. Births

No major continuing character is born on screen during September 1, 2006–August 31, 2007.

Relevant pregnancy developments:

• Bridget becomes pregnant, initially raising questions about the father. Dante is identified as the father, but the pregnancy ends in miscarriage.
• Taylor becomes pregnant through IVF during 2007.

Jack Marone is born on October 15, 2007, so his birth belongs to the next September-to-September entry. Likewise, Nicole Marone’s stillbirth occurred in early 2006, before this window. almosthuman99.com

9. Weddings and attempted weddings

Recasts and SORAS

SORAS means Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome: a character’s age is advanced faster than ordinary time.

Character	Casting change	Date	Nature of change
Bridget Forrester	Emily Harrison → Ashley Jones	December 17, 2004	Adult-to-adult recast; not SORAS. Harrison’s last appearances had been in July 2004, before this season.
Phoebe Forrester	Keaton Tyndall → Addison Hoover	April 22, 2005	Recast with an older teenage performer, continuing the character’s accelerated aging.
Steffy Forrester	Kylie Tyndall → Alex Hoover	April 22, 2005	Recast with an older teenage performer, continuing the twins’ accelerated aging.

The twins’ changes are best described as child/young-teen to older-teen recasts, rather than child-to-fully-adult replacements. soapcentral.com

Thomas’s major aging and Drew Tyler Bell’s introduction occurred on January 9, 2004, in Season 17. Likewise, Amanda and Rachel Pace had already taken over as Hope in May 2004. Those changes should not be counted as Season 18 recasts. Soap Opera Network Community

Births

No major on-screen birth of a continuing character was verified within this season.

Bridget’s pregnancy is a significant Season 18 story, but her daughter Nicole’s birth belongs to the following season. R.J. and Aly were already born before Season 18 began. Felicia’s baby, Dominick, is introduced during her later Season 19 return; his off-screen birth cannot be given a securely verified Season 18 date. en-academic.com

Deaths

Character	Date	Circumstances
Helen Moreno	March 2005; exact date unverified	Gaby’s mother, Stephanie’s housekeeper, dies in a car accident. Her death provides the background to Gaby’s introduction.

No principal cast character’s permanent death was verified within Season 18. Taylor’s storyline reverses an earlier presumed death; Stephanie’s heart attack is fabricated. Fandom

Y&R / B&B Crossovers

B&B characters appearing in Y&R

Character	Actor	Y&R broadcast date	Story
Eric Forrester	John McCook	August 11, 2005	Eric visits Genoa City and warns Michael Baldwin about Sheila Carter.

This appearance falls within the Season 18 broadcast period. Eric’s later visit for Michael and Lauren’s wedding, in December 2005, falls outside it. en.wikipedia.org

Shared character returning to Y&R

Sheila Carter portrayed by Kimberlin Brown returns to Y&R on August 5, 2005. Sheila originated on Y&R and subsequently became a major B&B character. This is therefore a return of a shared character, rather than a guest visit by someone concurrently appearing in B&B Season 18. Kimberlin Brown

Y&R characters appearing in B&B

• Joanna Manning portrayed by Susan Seaforth Hayes is credited with B&B appearances in 2005, but I could not establish their exact dates or securely place them within Season 18. Her appearance should therefore remain unconfirmed for this particular season. Fandom
• Katherine Chancellor portrayed by Jeanne Cooper appears on October 31–November 1, 2005, which belongs to Season 19. en.wikipedia.org
• Lauren Fenmore’s May 2004 B&B visit belongs to Season 17.

Thus, Eric’s August 11 visit to Y&R is the securely dated crossover within Season 18; a Y&R-to-B&B guest appearance within the same boundaries could not be securely confirmed.

Season covered: September 22, 2003–September 17, 2004, episodes #4135–#4387: 253 numbered episodes. This follows the show’s official season numbering. The streaming archive currently contains 251 video entries, although its finale is labelled S17 E253. Some third-party databases use a different, March-to-March definition of season 17. All dates below are original U.S. broadcast dates unless otherwise stated. The Bold and the Beautiful

Completeness note: The list below covers the principal, recurring and identifiable guest characters I could establish. I could not verify every minor speaking role or assign every infant performer to an exact episode, so I cannot honestly certify it as a complete episode-credit census.
