There is a significant problem with the current official B&B online archive: its restored Season 10 page labels the season as 252 episodes, but several of its original-air-date/episode-number pairings are demonstrably displaced. Contemporary episode indexing gives #2573 = June 25, 1997, for example, and the continuous historical sequence ends this season with #2615 on August 22, 1997. That makes 244 episodes (#2372–#2615 inclusive) the figure I recommend for our historical chronology. (TVEpguides)
I have not found a CBS photograph explicitly catalogued as the “Season 10 official cast photo.” The images above are period promotional/cast photographs from the 1996–97 era, so I prefer that description rather than falsely labelling one as an official Season 10 portrait.

A major casting change occurs with Thorne: Winsor Harmon takes over the role during this era and goes on to become the longest-running actor to play the character.
Major plots
Brooke, Ridge, Taylor and Grant
Season 10 is dominated by another massive rearrangement of the Brooke/Ridge/Taylor triangle, with Grant Chambers acting as the fourth point.
Brooke wants Ridge back. Ridge remains emotionally torn between Brooke and Taylor, while Grant falls increasingly deeply in love with Brooke.
Brooke ultimately decides to marry Grant while Ridge prepares to marry Taylor.
The two weddings are deliberately positioned against one another, creating one of the season’s major romantic climaxes.
Brooke marries Grant
Brooke hopes until virtually the last moment that Ridge will stop her wedding.
He does not arrive in time.
Brooke Logan and Grant Chambers marry in January 1997.
But there is an extraordinary twist: Grant had arranged for his friend to impersonate the ship’s captain who supposedly performed the ceremony.
Therefore:
Brooke and Grant are not actually legally married.
The truth does not become fully important until later. Retrospective B&B records consistently classify their 1997 union as ultimately invalid. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
Ridge and Taylor’s wedding collapses
At the same time, Ridge is supposed to remarry Taylor.
But Ridge cannot suppress his feelings for Brooke.
The ceremony fails to produce the reunion Taylor hoped for, leaving Taylor devastated.
This pushes Taylor closer to Thorne, who has developed feelings for her.
The result is another Forrester triangle:
Ridge → Taylor ← Thorne
while Ridge remains emotionally attached to Brooke.
Grant is shot
One of Season 10’s central mysteries begins when Grant Chambers is shot at Forrester Creations.
The obvious suspect is:
Ridge Forrester.
Ridge and Grant had been bitter rivals over Brooke, and evidence increasingly points toward Ridge.
Ridge is arrested and eventually faces trial.
But the truth is much more complicated.
Rick shot Grant
The real shooter is Rick Forrester.
Rick, still a child, is furious with Grant for taking his mother away from Ridge.
He takes the gun and shoots Grant.
Grant knows what happened.
But instead of exposing Rick, Grant protects him and allows suspicion to remain on Ridge.
This becomes the moral center of the shooting storyline: Grant, who had frequently been portrayed as manipulative, sacrifices his own interests to protect Brooke’s young son.
Ridge goes on trial
Evidence against Ridge mounts.
The storyline introduces investigator:
Hunter Jones — Tristan Rogers
Hunter investigates Grant’s shooting and becomes increasingly suspicious that the official version of events is wrong.
Ridge eventually faces trial while Taylor supports him.
The real circumstances surrounding the shooting become progressively harder to conceal.
Sly Donovan’s final crime and death
The Jessica/Sly storyline that began in Season 9 reaches its violent conclusion.
Jessica learns that Sly was the man who raped her.
Sly takes Jessica hostage and attempts to kill her.
The confrontation culminates in a fire.
Sly Donovan dies
Sources differ by several days on the final episode mapping, but the character record gives:
October 1996 — Sly Donovan is killed in the fire.
One character archive gives October 11, 1996, while another historical character index places his final episode at October 16, 1996 (#2399). Because of that conflict, I would record the death for now as:

Macy, Thorne and Claudia
Thorne and Macy’s marriage deteriorates badly.
A new woman enters their lives:
Claudia Cortéz — Lilly Melgar
First appearance: November 12, 1996
Claudia is an undocumented immigrant looking for work.
She develops feelings for Thorne. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
Macy becomes increasingly jealous and ultimately reports Claudia to immigration authorities.
Claudia faces deportation.
Thorne becomes furious with Macy for what she has done.
Their already fragile marriage effectively collapses.
Macy and Thorne divorce
Their second marriage ends during this period.
The divorce frees Thorne emotionally and contributes to his growing involvement with Taylor.
The Cortéz family and immigration storyline
Claudia’s storyline expands with the introduction of members of Los Angeles’s Latino community, including:
Alicia Cortéz, Claudia’s mother, and Enrique Alvarez.
The story focuses on Claudia’s immigration status, her attempts to remain in the United States and her relationships with Thorne and Enrique.

James marries Maggie — but Sheila is pregnant
James Warwick and Maggie Forrester fall in love and marry.
But Sheila Carter has also developed feelings for James.
Sheila and James sleep together.
Then comes the bombshell:
Sheila is pregnant with James’s child.
Sheila reveals the pregnancy around the time of James and Maggie’s wedding, immediately inserting herself into their marriage.
James feels responsible for his unborn child.
Maggie reluctantly agrees that Sheila needs support.

Sheila’s pregnancy
Sheila initially views the baby as her opportunity to build a legitimate family with James.
Maggie fears that Sheila is using the pregnancy to steal her husband.
James attempts to balance his responsibility toward Sheila with his marriage to Maggie.
The arrangement becomes increasingly unstable as Sheila’s obsession with James intensifies.
Mary Warwick is born
The pregnancy culminates in the season’s major birth.

Mary is initially known as Mary Warwick and is later renamed Erica Lovejoy by Sheila.

Sheila’s maternal attachment, however, makes the situation far more complicated than they anticipated.
Eric, Stephanie and Lauren
Another major Season 10 triangle develops:
Stephanie → Eric ← Lauren
Lauren Fenmore becomes increasingly attracted to Eric.
Eric reciprocates.
The friendship between Lauren and Stephanie is therefore severely tested.
Eventually Eric and Lauren become lovers.
Stephanie discovers their relationship and throws Lauren out.
Nevertheless, Eric and Stephanie still share a deep emotional bond and begin moving toward another reconciliation.
Eric and Stephanie’s aborted wedding
Eric and Stephanie eventually become engaged and prepare to remarry.
But Sally Spectra obtains compromising evidence of Eric’s relationship with Lauren.
At the wedding, a photograph revealing Eric and Lauren together is planted where Stephanie will discover it.
Stephanie sees the evidence.
The wedding collapses.
Therefore this should not be counted as a completed Eric/Stephanie marriage during Season 10. Contemporary 1997 retrospectives specifically remember Sally sabotaging the ceremony with the compromising photograph. (Soap Opera Digest)
Clarke, Sally and Spectra
Clarke remains involved with Spectra and continues trying to rebuild his relationship with his son C.J.
His business ambitions again create problems for Sally.
C.J. becomes increasingly important as a younger member of the Spectra family.
Amber Moore arrives
One of the most important B&B characters of the late 1990s enters near the end of Season 10.
Amber Moore — Adrienne Frantz
First appearance: July 18, 1997
Amber arrives as a young woman with enormous ambition and very little money.
She soon becomes connected with Sheila, James and Maggie, eventually working as a babysitter for baby Mary.
