There is an important database issue here. The official B&B Season 9 landing page currently displays “245 Episodes,” but its own episode catalogue goes through S9 E252, Episode #2371, aired August 23, 1996. Major plots
Brooke and Ridge — Bridget’s paternity destroys their future
The emotional centerpiece of Season 9 is the collapse of the family Brooke and Ridge believe they are finally building.
Ridge and Brooke plan to marry. But a mysterious letter claims that Brooke bribed the doctor responsible for Bridget’s original paternity test. Ridge initially believes that he—not Eric—is Bridget’s biological father.
A second test is demanded. On January 30, 1996, the Forresters await the results. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
The truth eventually emerges:
Eric Forrester is Bridget’s biological father.
The original result identifying Ridge was false because Sheila had switched the blood-sample labels years earlier.
The revelation devastates Brooke and Ridge. Ridge loses the child he believed was his daughter, while Brooke’s emotional stability begins to collapse.
By July, Brooke and Ridge finally tell Bridget that Eric is her biological father. The official archive places their preparations to tell her on July 5, 1996 (#2336) and the aftermath immediately afterward. (The Bold and the Beautiful)

Brooke’s breakdown and Barbados
After the paternity revelation, Stephanie pressures Brooke to leave Los Angeles.
Brooke becomes emotionally overwhelmed and disappears.
Ridge eventually tracks her to Barbados, where she is psychologically fragile and struggling with everything she has lost.
Ridge tries to help her recover.
The story then turns into a custody war over Rick and Bridget. Eric and Stephanie temporarily gain custody of Brooke’s children on April 29, 1996 (#2288). (The Bold and the Beautiful)

Sheila Carter is released
Sheila spends the beginning of the season institutionalized and facing a parole hearing.
The Forresters and Lauren oppose her release.
Nevertheless:
December 1, 1995 — #2188: Sheila is granted parole.

Sheila then develops an unlikely relationship with Brooke, who had previously shown her compassion.
But Sheila’s apparent rehabilitation gradually collapses.
Sheila targets Stephanie
Sheila becomes increasingly obsessed with revenge against Stephanie.
Her most dangerous scheme involves secretly poisoning Stephanie’s calcium supplements with mercury.

Stephanie becomes gravely ill.
For a time, Maggie Forrester becomes a suspect, while Sheila attempts to manipulate events from the shadows.

Stephanie survives.
Eric, Stephanie and Taylor
Eric becomes romantically involved with Taylor.
Their attraction becomes serious enough for Stephanie to fear that she has permanently lost Eric.
Taylor, however, remains emotionally connected to Ridge.

Lauren Fenmore becomes a B&B regular
Season 9 marks a major moment in the shared Y&R/B&B universe.
After years of crossing between Genoa City and Los Angeles, Lauren Fenmore leaves Y&R on October 13, 1995 and migrates to B&B full-time on October 17. (Wikipédia)

She also develops romantic tension with Ridge, while becoming involved with James Warwick.

Spectra Fashions again resorts to industrial espionage.
Sally obtains designs stolen from Forrester Creations.

Eric devises an elaborate trap.
He pretends to become romantically interested in Sally—even publicly proposing to her—to expose the theft.

Clarke Garrison returns
One of the most significant returns of the season is:

Return: March 1996
Clarke returns to Los Angeles and to Spectra Fashions, bringing him back into the lives of Sally and their son C.J.

C.J. initially resents the father who abandoned him.
Clarke’s return eventually leads into a dangerous business arrangement with Jack Fuller, which will become increasingly important.
Grant Chambers arrives

Grant is an ambitious fashion designer and an old friend of Taylor’s.
He rapidly becomes integrated into the Forrester orbit and develops feelings for Brooke.

Brooke and Grant eventually kiss, creating another obstacle between Brooke and Ridge.

Jessica, Dylan, Maggie and Sly
Jessica begins the season in a diabetic coma.
At the same time, Stephanie discovers that Jessica’s mother Maggie has been having an affair with Jessica’s boyfriend Dylan Shaw. The affair creates a painful mother/daughter conflict. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
Dylan eventually leaves Jessica.
Jessica becomes increasingly involved with Sly Donovan.
Sly proposes to her, but his motives become darker. He hopes to impregnate Jessica and gain access to the Forrester fortune.
Jessica eventually claims to be pregnant.

The storyline then becomes considerably darker when Jessica is raped.

The revelation that Sly was her rapist begins at the very end of Season 9 but reaches its violent conclusion in Season 10, so Sly’s death should not be counted as a Season 9 death.
