Major plots
Eric, Beth and Stephanie — the marriage collapses. Eric’s renewed love for Beth Logan becomes impossible to ignore. He wants a future with Beth and moves toward ending his marriage to Stephanie. Stephanie refuses to surrender Eric and secretly works to reunite Beth with her long-absent husband, Stephen Logan. Her plan succeeds when Stephen returns, forcing Beth to confront the family she once had and complicating her future with Eric. The official season archive follows this story from the opening episodes. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
Brooke and Ridge become the show’s central romance. Brooke tries to distance herself from Ridge because of Caroline, but the attraction between them becomes increasingly difficult to resist. Ridge moves toward a genuine commitment to Brooke, culminating in an engagement at the end of December. In Episode #0441, December 30, 1988, Ridge gives Brooke her engagement ring in a glass of champagne. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
Caroline cannot let go of Ridge. Caroline’s marriage to Thorne becomes increasingly fragile because her feelings for Ridge remain unresolved. One particularly dangerous moment occurs after Caroline gets drunk: Ridge slips into her bed as a prank, and Caroline initially believes she is with Thorne. The emotional consequences deepen the triangle and intensify Thorne’s jealousy. (TheTVDB)
Thorne shoots Ridge. The Ridge–Caroline situation eventually pushes Thorne over the edge. After drinking heavily and taking sleeping medication, Thorne shoots Ridge. Stephanie becomes determined to protect her son and conceal what happened. The shooting becomes one of the foundational Forrester family secrets and feeds directly into the Angela storyline.
Kristen and Clarke marry — while Clarke is sleeping with Margo. Clarke Garrison establishes himself as a talented but ruthlessly ambitious designer. He becomes involved with Kristen while simultaneously having an affair with Margo. Kristen accepts his proposal, and the couple elope to Las Vegas. Kristen Forrester and Clarke Garrison are married on June 29, 1988, in Episode #0314. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
Almost immediately afterward, Clarke learns that Margo is pregnant with his child. On July 8 she reveals the pregnancy; Clarke desperately tries to keep the truth from Kristen. (TheTVDB)
Margo gives birth to Clarke’s son. Margo carries Clarke’s child while allowing others to believe that Clarke is not the father. She receives emotional support from Storm and later gives birth to Mark Maclaine. The child is born on December 9, 1988; by December 14, Margo is home with her baby and asks Storm to become his godfather. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
Donna’s modeling career becomes a scandal. Donna begins working with publisher Nick Preston, posing for increasingly revealing photographs. Nick falls for her, but Bill Spencer controls the publication of the pictures. Donna’s nude photographs eventually become public, creating scandal — and the storyline takes an ironic turn when nude photographs of Bill himself are published. The plot mixes Donna’s ambitions, her romance with Nick and Bill’s attempts to control both of them. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
The Angela Forrester mystery deepens. Stephanie has secretly maintained contact with a severely disabled daughter, Angela, whom the rest of the Forrester family believes died years earlier. The woman living as Angela is actually Deveney Dixon, while the real Angela died before the series began. Todd Powell perpetuates the deception. During Season 2 the story increasingly intersects with Thorne and Stephanie’s secret about Ridge’s shooting, but the full revelation does not occur until Season 3 in April 1989. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
Spectra Fashions enters the picture. Late in the season, Sally Spectra emerges as the flamboyant owner of a rival fashion house. Clarke becomes entangled with Sally and secretly supplies designs, setting up the long-running Forrester Creations vs. Spectra Fashions rivalry that will become one of the defining elements of the 1990s. By March 3, 1989, Sally is already trying to ingratiate herself with Stephanie while pressuring Clarke for designs. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
Brooke is pregnant. Season 2 closes with the revelation that Brooke is pregnant with Ridge’s child. Brooke tells Stephanie, Caroline learns the news, and Ridge reacts with troubling ambivalence. Brooke briefly considers abortion, but in the finale — March 17, 1989, Episode #0493 — doctors confirm the pregnancy and detect a heartbeat. The pregnancy and its eventual miscarriage belong to the next season. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
Births
Mark Maclaine — December 9, 1988
Parents: Margo Maclaine Lynley and Clarke Garrison.
Mark is the only major on-screen birth of Season 2. Margo gives birth to Clarke’s son while Clarke is married to Kristen. The official B&B “Births” collection includes the immediate aftermath in S2 E189 / Episode #0430, aired December 14, when Margo asks Storm to be Mark’s godfather. Character records date Mark’s birth and first appearance to December 9, 1988. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
Brooke’s pregnancy does not count as a Season 2 birth: she is still pregnant when the season ends.
Marriages
Kristen Forrester & Clarke Garrison — June 29, 1988
The couple elope to Las Vegas. The wedding takes place in Season 2, Episode 73 / overall Episode #0314, originally aired June 29, 1988. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
That marriage becomes increasingly unstable almost immediately because of Clarke’s affair with Margo and the revelation that he fathered Mark.
No other major wedding is completed during Season 2. In particular, Ridge and Brooke become engaged on December 30, 1988, but they do not marry during this season. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
A correction to some online B&B marriage lists is worth noting: Margo and Bill Spencer do not marry in Season 2. Their wedding occurs later, on August 28, 1989 (Season 3, Episode #0609). (TheTVDB)
Deaths
No present-day major character death occurs during Season 2
There is, however, one extremely important historical death revealed through the Angela storyline:
The real Angela Forrester — Eric and Stephanie’s daughter — had actually died before the events being shown, after an accidental fall. The woman Stephanie believes to be Angela during Season 2 is Deveney Dixon. The truth is not revealed to Stephanie until April 12, 1989, during Season 3, when Todd admits that the real Angela had died approximately a year earlier. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
Therefore, for a strict Season 2 births/marriages/deaths chronology, I would record:
Deaths during the season: 0.
Previously occurring death central to the season’s plot: Angela Forrester.
Todd Powell’s death also does not belong to Season 2; it occurs later in 1989. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
Season 2 at a glance
252 episodes (#0242–#0493) | 1 major birth | 1 completed major marriage | 0 present-day major deaths
Season 2 is essentially the year in which The Bold and the Beautiful expands beyond its original setup. Brooke and Ridge become the show’s central romantic force; Caroline’s feelings for Ridge threaten her marriage to Thorne; Thorne shoots Ridge; Eric and Beth try to reunite; Stephanie fights to preserve her family; Kristen marries Clarke; Margo gives birth to Clarke’s son; the Angela deception grows; and Sally Spectra arrives, planting the seeds of the Forrester–Spectra rivalry. The official B&B archive itself summarizes the season around the escalating Ridge/Brooke attraction and the damage it causes to marriages, friendships and the Forrester family’s fragile peace.
