It includes much of the central Forrester–Logan–Spencer ensemble. Season 3 is also significant because the cast expands considerably with the Spectra family, Macy Alexander, Mick Savage and, in early 1990, Felicia Forrester.

Two Season 3 introductions are especially important. Macy Alexander first appears on April 27, 1989, in Episode #0522, while Mick Savage first appears May 19, 1989, in Episode #0538. Sources disagree between January 11 and January 15 for her first appearance, so I would avoid pretending that discrepancy is settled without checking the original episode credits. Major plots
Brooke loses Ridge’s baby — and the Brooke/Ridge/Caroline triangle explodes
Season 3 begins immediately after Brooke learns she is pregnant. Ridge supports her, but Caroline remains in love with him. Brooke’s pregnancy is considered high-risk; she experiences spotting and later abdominal pain. In June she is hospitalized and miscarries Ridge’s child. By the July 4 episode, the official archive explicitly describes Brooke as having suffered a miscarriage. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
The miscarriage changes everything. Caroline reveals that Brooke had concealed Ridge’s love letter to her, and Ridge’s relationship with Brooke begins to collapse. Caroline moves toward divorcing Thorne, while Ridge is forced to confront the fact that he still loves Caroline.
Caroline divorces Thorne and returns to Ridge
Caroline finally accepts that her marriage to Thorne cannot survive her love for Ridge. Thorne is devastated, but eventually lets her go. Ridge chooses Caroline over Brooke.
By December 28, 1989, Ridge formally proposes to Caroline. The couple announce their engagement to their families, and Ridge breaks the news to a devastated Brooke. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
The triangle that defined the show’s first three years therefore reaches its first major conclusion: Ridge and Caroline marry in January 1990.
Ridge and Caroline finally marry
The wedding is one of the major events of the season. Stephanie is delighted, Bill reluctantly deals with his daughter’s choice, and Brooke attends despite her heartbreak.

This marriage effectively closes the first great Ridge/Caroline/Brooke chapter — but it also pushes Brooke toward an entirely new and much more controversial relationship.
Brooke and Eric
After losing Ridge, Brooke increasingly turns to Eric Forrester for comfort.
Eric’s marriage to Stephanie is already deeply damaged. His attempts to reunite with Beth have failed to give him the future he expected, while Stephanie’s manipulation and obsession with controlling the family have exhausted him.
The emotional bond between Eric and Brooke becomes romantic. By February 20, 1990, Eric admits that he loves Brooke and the two kiss passionately. Brooke and Eric subsequently sleep together. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
By the season finale, the situation has become extraordinary: Brooke is involved with Eric while Beth still loves Eric and Stephanie is desperately trying to save her marriage. The final episodes explicitly have Brooke confessing to Beth that she slept with Eric. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
This sets up one of the most important storylines of Season 4.
The Angela/Deveney deception is exposed
The Angela storyline reaches its climax early in Season 3.
Stephanie believes that the severely disabled woman she has secretly supported for years is her daughter Angela. On April 12, 1989, Todd finally admits the truth: the real Angela died about a year earlier, and another woman was substituted for her. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
The impostor — Deveney Dixon — knows that Thorne shot Ridge and uses the information to blackmail Eric and Stephanie.
Todd and Deveney apparently die in a car accident near Big Sur; on April 26, Ridge shows Stephanie the report announcing their deaths. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
But there is a twist: Deveney survives. She resurfaces later in 1989, badly scarred, and again becomes entangled with the Forresters and Thorne. Todd, however, really is dead.
Sally Spectra becomes a major force
Season 3 transforms Sally Spectra from a colorful supporting antagonist into one of the show’s central characters.
Spectra Fashions grows into a genuine rival to Forrester Creations. Sally employs Clarke while he secretly designs under the pseudonym “Beau Rivage.” Her flamboyant schemes increasingly involve Stephanie, Eric, Ridge and the entire fashion industry.
Alongside Sally are Darla Einstein and Saul Feinberg, establishing the classic Spectra trio.
Macy Alexander arrives

Sally initially dreams of pairing Macy with Ridge. Instead, Macy becomes involved with photographer Mick Savage, whose romantic past with Kristen complicates matters.
By early 1990, Macy repeatedly encounters a newly single Thorne. Their mutual attraction begins to develop, establishing the relationship that will dominate both characters’ lives for years. Kristen, Clarke and Mick
Clarke’s marriage to Kristen deteriorates dramatically.
Clarke is still connected to Margo through their son Mark and secretly works for Sally. Then Mick Savage, Kristen’s former lover, arrives in Los Angeles on May 19, 1989. (Wikipédia)
Mick wants Kristen back. Kristen struggles with her attraction to him while Clarke becomes increasingly jealous. By January 1990, Kristen asks Clarke for a divorce and tells Mick she wants to marry him. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
Margo marries Bill Spencer
Margo finally gives up — at least publicly — on Clarke and accepts Bill Spencer’s proposal.
The wedding takes place on August 28, 1989, Episode #0609. Clarke arrives after the ceremony, too late to stop it. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
But the marriage begins under terrible circumstances: on their wedding night Margo can only respond sexually to Bill by imagining that he is Clarke. The story makes clear that her feelings for Clarke have not disappeared.

There is no major child born between March 20, 1989 and March 16, 1990.
There is, however, one major pregnancy outcome:

Todd Powell — 1989
Todd Powell is the one genuine present-day character death of Season 3.
After Todd and Deveney flee, their car crashes. Initially, both are believed dead. Deveney later turns out to have survived, but Todd did not. Character death records identify Todd Powell’s 1989 death as a suicide/car crash. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
Angela Forrester — historical death revealed in Season 3
The real Angela Forrester did not die during Season 3. Her death occurred before the events shown on screen.
What happens in Season 3 is the revelation of the truth. On April 12, 1989 (#0511) Todd tells Stephanie that the real Angela died approximately a year earlier and that he replaced her with an impostor. (The Bold and the Beautiful)

Season 3 is one of the show’s first genuine turning-point seasons: Brooke loses her baby and then Ridge; Ridge finally marries Caroline; Thorne moves toward Macy; Sally and the Spectras become indispensable; the Angela deception explodes; Margo marries Bill; Kristen’s marriage to Clarke falls apart; and, most importantly for the future of the series, Brooke and Eric become lovers.
