All dates below refer to U.S. broadcasts. Canadian broadcasts sometimes aired a day earlier, and preemptions occasionally changed dates announced in advance.
1. Season dates
| Date | Episode | |
|---|---|---|
| Beginning | September 21, 2020 | 11,951 |
| End | September 28, 2021 | 12,205 |
| Total | 255 episodes |
These boundaries agree across the Prime Video season catalogue and episode databases. However, I could not verify both boundaries directly through an accessible official CBS archive or the official YouTube channel. They should therefore be treated as the catalogue definition of Season 48, rather than as fully CBS-verified boundaries. CBS’s own historical photo metadata is inconsistent: its December 1, 2020 entry labels episode 12,000 “Season 47.” primevideo.com
The following account uses September 21, 2020–September 28, 2021 throughout.
2. Characters and actors
Characters are alphabetized by surname, using their familiar names during this period. Married names and aliases appear where useful.
Completeness note: the principal and recurring cast can be established reliably. A fully exhaustive list of every day player would require checking all 255 episodes’ closing credits. The list below includes identified guest characters, children and special appearances; uncertainties about infant performers and children absent from the screen are identified separately.

Children requiring qualification
Contemporary cast lists also retained these performers:
- Bella Fisher portrayed by Martie Blair.
- Christian Newman portrayed by Alex Wilson.
- Johnny Abbott portrayed by Holden and Ryan Hare.
- Katie Abbott/Newman portrayed by Sienna Mercuri.
However, a continuing cast-list entry does not prove a newly filmed appearance within these particular season boundaries. I could not securely establish Season 48 appearances for all four, so I have not presented them as confirmed on-screen participants. Johnny’s older imagined version is separately included above. TVMEG.COM
For Dominic, later accounts associate the role with Rainn and River Ware, but contemporary evidence identifying the twins becomes clear in December 2021, after this season. I cannot securely assign them to his August–September appearances. Fandom
3. Principal plots
Dina’s death and the Abbott family
Dina’s Alzheimer’s storyline reaches its conclusion. Jack becomes absorbed in recovering the “Teardrop of Love” necklace, connecting it with his mother’s memories. The family gathers for her final moments.
Her death also intensifies Theo’s resentment over his place in the family. After challenging his inheritance, he ultimately accepts the family’s Paris business interests and leaves Genoa City. en.wikipedia.org
Adam, Billy and the shooting mystery
Billy and Lily’s work at Chancellor Communications puts Adam’s past under public scrutiny. Adam becomes increasingly unstable and estranged from his family.
When someone attempts to shoot Adam, Chance takes the bullet. Billy becomes the principal suspect, but Alyssa Montalvo is ultimately exposed as the shooter. Billy and Lily’s professional partnership also develops into a romance.
Chelsea’s stroke and her revenge against Adam
Chelsea suffers a medical crisis requiring surgery and is left unable to speak or move normally. Adam’s continuing emotional connection with Sharon deepens her anger.
As she recovers, Chelsea conceals her progress and, with Chloe’s assistance, poisons Rey to frame Adam. The scheme eventually collapses, leading to Chelsea’s psychiatric treatment and renewed conflict over Connor.
Sharon’s recovery, marriage and Faith’s crisis
Sharon continues recovering from breast cancer and marries Rey. Their marriage is strained by her involvement with Adam.
Faith faces bullying, alcohol use and manipulation by Jordan. After a serious crash, she develops a kidney problem. Adam donates a kidney, despite the family’s hostility toward him. Faith subsequently grows close to the newly returned Moses.
Devon, Elena, Nate and Amanda
Elena sleeps with Nate, devastating Devon and causing a violent confrontation between the cousins. Nate suffers a hand injury affecting his surgical career.
Devon and Amanda grow closer, while Elena and Nate attempt to build a relationship. The story gradually shifts toward Amanda’s biological family.
Amanda discovers her family’s secrets
Amanda finds her mother, Naya Benedict, half-sister Imani, and grandfather Sutton Ames. Initially drawn into Sutton’s legal defense, she investigates the death of her biological father, Richard Nealon.
She discovers that Sutton’s concern for his reputation lay behind the crime. Her relationship with Imani improves, while her relationship with Devon becomes more serious.
Abby and Chance’s marriage and surrogacy
After their wedding, Abby and Chance discover that becoming parents will require assistance. Devon becomes the sperm donor and Mariah the surrogate.
Chance leaves on an undercover assignment. Mariah is later kidnapped by Stitch, who hopes to engineer a rescue and regain Abby’s affection. Mariah is found and gives birth, but struggles with trauma and her attachment to the baby. Stitch’s role in the kidnapping is revealed. Soap Opera Digest
Sally, Summer, Kyle and the Locke family
Sally arrives from Los Angeles and enters the fashion business through Lauren. Her rivalry with Summer escalates, and both women investigate each other’s vulnerabilities.
Kyle learns that Harrison is his biological son. Tara and Sally exploit the situation to force Summer to accept a job in Milan and leave Kyle. Phyllis exposes their collaboration; Tara is arrested, Sally loses her position, and Kyle reunites with Summer in Italy. soapoperanetwork.com
Victoria and Ashland
Ashland’s business dealings bring him into the Newman orbit. He and Victoria become romantically involved, and their companies merge into Newman-Locke.
His reported terminal cancer accelerates their relationship and wedding plans. Billy and Nick investigate inconsistencies in his history, while Jesse Gaines arrives with damaging information. The season ends with the wedding still ahead. soapoperanetwork.com
4. Births
| Child | Date | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Miles Mitchell Fisher | October 5, 2020 | Son of Chloe Mitchell and Kevin Fisher. |
| Dominic Phillip Newman-Abbott-Chancellor | August 27, 2021 | Abby’s biological son, conceived using Devon’s sperm and carried by Mariah. Chance is his intended father. Mariah privately calls him “Bowie.” |
Miles’s performer is not securely identified. Dominic’s birth follows Mariah’s rescue from captivity; the hospital aftermath continues on August 30. Fandom
5. Recasts and SORAS
| Character | Change | Dates and classification |
|---|---|---|
| Chance Chancellor | Donny Boaz → Justin Gaston → Donny Boaz | Gaston substitutes November 23–December 15, 2020; Boaz returns December 18. Temporary recast connected with Boaz’s COVID absence. |
| Faith Newman | Alyvia Alyn Lind → Reylynn Caster | Lind’s final appearance: April 7, 2021. Caster’s debut: April 12, 2021. Permanent teenage recast. |
| Amanda Sinclair | Mishael Morgan → Karla Mosley → Mishael Morgan | Mosley’s U.S. debut: April 27, 2021. Morgan returns on screen June 1, 2021 after eye surgery. |
| Moses Winters | Former child portrayal → Jacob Aaron Gaines | April 1, 2021. A clear SORAS, with Moses returning as a teenager. |
| Johnny Abbott | Matthew Erick White plays an older version | December 16, 2020, in Billy’s imagined future. A fantasy casting, not a continuing SORAS. |
The announced April 26 date for Mosley is frequently repeated, but contemporary U.S. listings and coverage of the broadcast identify April 27. soapoperanetwork.com
SORAS distinction: Moses undergoes an accelerated age change. Faith was already a teenager; replacing her with an older actress does not by itself establish a child-to-adult SORAS.
Conner Floyd’s debut as Chance and Rory Gibson’s debut as Noah occur after Season 48.

Outside this season: Victoria and Ashland’s wedding takes place in October 2021. Kyle and Summer’s off-screen remarriage is also established in the following season; it should not be assigned an invented Season 48 wedding date. celebratingthesoaps.com
10. Deaths
Dina Mergeron — October 16, 2020
Dina dies surrounded by her family after the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. This is the season’s principal present-day character death. en.wikipedia.org
Other distinctions:
- Richard Nealon’s murder is investigated during Amanda’s storyline, but occurred years earlier.
- Delia, Cassie and John Abbott were already deceased; their appearances do not represent new deaths.
- Ashland’s reported terminal illness does not lead to his death during Season 48.
11. Y&R / B&B Crossovers
Y&R characters appearing in B&B
| Character | Actor | B&B broadcast dates | Story |
|---|---|---|---|
| Summer Newman | Hunter King | January 18 and 19, 2021 | Visits Los Angeles and questions the Spencer circle about Sally’s history. |
Although Kyle accompanies Summer in the Y&R scenes set in Los Angeles, this does not constitute an appearance by Kyle on B&B. soapoperanetwork.com
B&B characters appearing in Y&R
| Character | Actor | Y&R broadcast dates | Story |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sally Spectra | Courtney Hope | Beginning November 3, 2020 | Permanent transfer to Genoa City. |

Flo’s appearance was announced for January 21, but aired January 22 after the schedule shifted. Eric’s June dates are specifically documented in contemporary crossover coverage. soapoperanetwork.com
Two casting distinctions: Don Diamont appears as Bill Spencer, rather than returning as Brad Carlton. Karla Mosley’s temporary portrayal of Amanda Sinclair is a recast, not a crossover by her B&B character Maya Avant. soapoperanetwork.com
