January : Janet shoots the video for “I Get Lonely” directed by Paul Hunter and featuring the Blackstreet.

January 26 :  Janet attends the American Music Awards ceremony at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles where she performs  “Together Again” in a R&B version.

February 24 : “I Get Lonely” is released as the 3rd single from “The Velvet Rope”. It peaks at #3 on Hot 100 Billboard.

February 26 : Janet tapes a piano/vocal performance of “I Get Lonely” on the Rosie O Donnell Show and Rosie presents her with the Grammy Award she won the night before.

February 27 : Janet attends the Soul Train Awards ceremony at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles where she performs “I Get Lonely”.

Late February : Unknowingly, Janet and Michael are staying at the same hotel in Los Angeles. Janet had to evacuate her Malibu home because of El Niño. Her chef Ricardo informs her that Michael is at the hotel. She goes up to his room. MJ introduces her to his son Prince, and the two siblings spend several hours together, which makes Janet late for a photo shoot. They hadn’t seen each other since December 1995…

March :  Janet & the Kids rehearse for the new tour in Los Angeles .

March 3 : An order is entered by District Judge Carl J. Christensen at Clark County, Nevada dissolving the marriage between LaToya and Jack Gordon and awarding LaToya royalties and property.

March 10 : In NYC, Janet gives an interview on CNN’s Larry King Lve.

At night she & Rene attend the Blockbuster Awards in L.A where Janet is presented with an award.

February 13 : Debbie Rowe gives birth to Prince Michael Joseph Jackson Jr, first child of Michael, at the Cedar Sinai Medical Center of Los Angeles.

Late February : Michael hosts a Jackson Family Day at Neverland to introduce Prince to the clan. Janet who is in studio in Minneapolis can’t attend the party. LaToya is not invited.

June 24 : The stormy six-year marriage of singer LaToya and Jack Gordon is officially over. The divorce is granted in Clark County Family Court.

July 13 : Janet & Rene offer a special preview of 4 songs from the new album during a fan meeting.

July 29 :  Janet & Rene attend Wayne Morris Birthday Party.

August :  Janet completes the recording of the “Velvet Rope” album.

She auditions the new Kids which include Tina, Shawnette, Kelly, Nikki and a 17 years old dancer named Gil Duldulao who will eventually become Janet’s choreographer and best friend.

December 1 : Together Again” is released on World Aids Day in the United Kingdom as a 7-inch vinyl single, a 12-inch vinyl single, a CD single, and a cassette single. The following day, the song is released in the United States on all four formats plus a maxi-CD. In Japan, a CD single is issued later that month, on December 22. The song will peak at #1 on Hot 100 Billboard.

December : Janet is on the cover of Ebony magazine with new pictures and a new interview where she reveals that she recently reconnected with LaToya.

December 20 : Enid Spann Jackson, Jackie’s ex wife and mother of their children Siggy & Brandi tragically dies of a brain aneurysm in a movie theater bahhroom. The Jackson family gather at Hayvenhurst to support Siggy & brandi.

January : Katherine, Joe, Jermaine, Alejandra, Genevieve, Donte & Randy Jr move back into a renovated Hayvenhurst.

Janet renegociates her contracts with Virgin Records and earns an unprecedented 80 million dollars!

BET airs Janet’s interview with Ed Gordon.

January 8 : “Twenty Foreplay” is released as the 2nd & final single from “Design Of A Decade 1986-1996”.

January 18 : Lisa Marie officially files for divorce. Michael’s spokesman states that they remain friends.

May 3 : LaToya calls Randy and asks him to rescue her from Jack Gordon.

Randy immediately catches a plane with his cousin Tony and they take LaToya from her New York hotel straight to her Las Vegas home.

There, LaToya is treated for bruises and she files for divorce ans asks a restraining order to protect her from Jack Gordon.

LaToya slowly reconnects with the family starting with Randy, Jermaine & Joe and she speaks to Katherine on the phone.

July 25 : Alejandra gives birth to Jermaine’s son Jaafar Jackson.

January 31 : Whoops Now”/”What’ll Do” are released as “Janet” ‘ eighth and ninth single, respectively. The songs reached number one in New Zealand and peaked within the top 20 in several countries. This double single is not released in the US.

The video for “Whoops Now” Is directed by Yuri Elizondo, the younger brother of René Elizondo, Jr., and depicts Janet and “The Kids” having fun in Jackson’s favorite vacation spot, Anguilla.

May 29 : “Scream”/”Childhood” is released worldwide. “Scream” would become the first single in the 37-year history of Billboard to debut in the top five on the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number five. Elsewhere, it topped the charts in Italy, New Zealand, and Spain while reaching the top five in Australia, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

June : Janet goes to Minneapolis with Rene to record two new songs for a greatest hits album with Terry Lewis & Jimmy Jam.

June 13 : The “Scream” short film is premiered on MTV & BET.

August 27 : Janet shoots the music video for “Runaway”, directed by Marcus Nispel and choreographed by Tina Landon.

August 29 : “Runaway” is released as the 1st single from “Design Of A Decade 1986-1996” along with the video. It peaks at #3 on Hot 100 Billboard.

September 7 : Michael & Janet attend the MTV Video Music Awards in New York City with Lisa Marie & Rene . MJ opens the ceremony with a 20 minutes long medley and accepts an award with Janet for Scream.

October 10 : “Design Of A Decade 1986-1996” is released by A&M Records as well as a VHS featuring all the videos from the “Control” & “Rhythm Nation” eras.

Janet goes to Australia to promote “Design Of A Decade”. She tapes an intervew on Rockp Pop Studio TV show.

December 6 : Michael collapses while rehearsing the concert and he is rushed to the Beth Israel Medical Center . He is suffering from gastro-enteritis, dehydration and electrolyte imbalances.

Michael and Janet were both scheduled to attend the 1995 Billboard Music Awards at the New York Coliseum that evening. Janet cancels her appearance at the Billboard Awards and she visits Michael at the hospital.

March 11 : Janet has signed what is believed to be the most lucrative contract in the history of recording. The 24-year-old singer, songwriter and actress signed an exclusive contract with Virgin Records. Although the financial terms were not disclosed, the deal has been widely reported as yielding Ms. Jackson from $40 million and $50 million for three to five albums.

March 16 :  Janet is presented with the Humanitarian Of The Year Award by the Starlight Foundation at the 20/20 Club in Beverly Hills, California.

March 31 : Janet & Rene secretly get married and move into a beach house in Malibu .

July 27 : Michael invites the Jackson family to Neverland to celebrate the first ever Joe Jackson Day. Katherine, Joe, Rebbie, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine & Janet and the grandchildren attend the event.

September 12 : Latoya publishes her autobiography “Growing Up In The Jackson Family” which causes a great controversy. During her promotional tour, LaToya gives many interviews with Jack Gordon by her side (including the Phil Donahue Show) and she claims that Rebbie and her sexually abused by Joe… The Jackson family denies the allegations and claims LaToya was brainwashed by her manager/husband Jack Gordon… Michael & Janet do not react publicly to those allegations.

November : Randy is arrested after Eliza phones the police to report that the beatings have not stopped. Randy is sentenced to one month in jail, two years’ probation, and ordered to enroll in a domestic violence rehabilitation program. Eliza files for divorce and custody of Steveanna.

The music video for “Black Cat” directed by Wayne Isham is filmed on April 5, 1990, using live concert footage from the Met Center concert in Bloomington, Minnesota. In addition to the audience for the sold-out show, the filming reportedly drew an additional 3,000 fans.

September 6 : Janet attends the MTV Video Music Awards 1990 at the Universal Amphitheatre, Universal City, CA where she is presented the Video Vanguard Award for her contributions and influence within music and popular culture. She also performs “Black Cat”.

October : Katherine Jackson publishes her memoirs titles “My Family : The Jacksons” and gives an interview to Ebony magazine to promote it (Michael, Janet & LaToya appear on the cover of the magazine).

October 2 : “Love Will Never Do” is released as the 7th from “Rhythm Nation 1814” along with a video directed by Herb Ritts. The song becomes Janet’s fifth number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100, and the final of seven top five singles from the album, making her the only artist to achieve seven top five singles from one album.

October 4/5/6 : Janet kicks off the european leg of her Rhythm Nation tour with three concerts at the Ahoy Sportpaleis in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
