A note on the dates: I could not verify both season boundaries from an accessible CBS archive or the soap’s official YouTube channel. The guide below therefore uses September 4, 2012–August 30, 2013 as a working range, following the September-based episode listings. This is not a CBS-certified season boundary: databases disagree, although Rotten Tomatoes places the final episode of its Season 40 on August 30, 2013. Events from early September are identified separately. All dates refer to the original U.S. broadcasts. Moviefone
CBS does officially confirm two milestones within this period: episode 10,000 airs on September 27, 2012, and the programme celebrates its 40th anniversary in March 2013. Neither milestone, by itself, establishes a season premiere. paramountpressexpress.com

2. Main storylines
Sharon’s collapse and the destruction of the Newman ranch
The consequences of Sharon’s marriage to Victor dominate the opening months. Her conduct at Newman Enterprises damages her relationships with the family, while her emotional condition deteriorates. In October 2012, she sets fire to the Newman ranch. Adam helps conceal her involvement and arranges psychiatric assistance; Sharon is diagnosed with bipolar disorder. His determination to protect her creates further tension with Chelsea. en.wikipedia.org
The battle for Newman Enterprises and Jack’s addiction
Victor’s absence and Sharon’s troubled management leave Newman Enterprises vulnerable. Jack takes control of his rival’s company, but his dependence on prescription pain medication increasingly compromises him. The crisis escalates when Stephanie Wheeler dies at his house after a New Year’s Eve encounter. Adam helps conceal the death, creating dangerous leverage involving Victor and Stephanie’s father, Congressman Marcus Wheeler. Jack eventually confronts his addiction with Phyllis’s support. Wikipedia
Summer’s paternity and Phyllis’s fall
Nick admits that Summer’s original paternity test was inconclusive. A new result identifies Jack as her father, devastating Summer and creating an apparent biological obstacle to her attraction to Kyle.
Viewers learn that Sharon has tampered with the result to help undermine Nick’s relationship with Avery. Phyllis overhears Sharon’s confession at Cassie’s grave. Their confrontation leads to a struggle in a stairwell and Phyllis’s fall. She survives but enters a coma, bringing Michelle Stafford’s run to an end. The apparent paternity result is not the final truth about Summer’s parentage. en.wikipedia.org
The Baldwin family: bullying, betrayal and obsession
Summer targets Jamie Vernon online, and Fen’s jealousy intensifies the bullying. Michael’s efforts to protect Jamie place him at odds with his son and strain his marriage to Lauren.
Lauren begins an affair with Carmine Basco. When she attempts to end it and repair her marriage, Carmine becomes increasingly threatening. Fen’s drug use adds another crisis, while Michael and Lauren struggle to rebuild their family. Wikipedia
Dylan’s arrival and Chelsea’s paternity deception
Dylan McAvoy arrives in Genoa City, bringing Avery’s supposedly lost former love back into her life and complicating her relationship with Nick. A military veteran, Dylan also struggles with trauma.
Chelsea becomes pregnant with Adam’s child but allows Dylan to believe he is the father. Their relationship develops into marriage, and Dylan delivers the baby, Connor. Chelsea’s secret threatens the family he believes they have created. kiwix.scoggi.net
Leslie and Tyler’s past; Hilary’s revenge
Leslie and Tyler’s family history becomes central when Avery investigates their father Gus Rogan’s conviction for their mother’s murder. The case exposes Congressman Wheeler’s involvement.
A separate mystery develops around Rose Turner and an anonymous campaign against the Winters family. Hilary Curtis arrives as Cane’s assistant, but her interest in the family conceals a revenge plan: she blames Neil for her mother Rose’s death. Her presence also fuels tensions between Cane and Lily, already complicated by Tyler’s attraction to Lily. Wikipedia
Victor and Nikki reunite
Nikki is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She and Victor remarry in March 2013, but their wedding is threatened by a bomb plot associated with Wheeler. Adam is shot while protecting Victor, changing the relationship between father and son. Soap Opera Digest
Katherine’s final chapter
Katherine undergoes treatment for a brain tumour and later leaves on a trip with Murphy. News of her death reaches Genoa City in August, leaving Jill, Nikki and the wider community grieving. Her letters begin setting further stories in motion. The memorial follows on September 3–4, 2013, immediately after this guide’s working cutoff. Rotten Tomatoes
3. Births
| Date | Child | Details |
|---|---|---|
| August 12, 2013 | Connor Newman | Chelsea gives birth at Dylan’s loft, with Dylan delivering the baby. They initially name him Terrence Connor McAvoy, believing—or, in Chelsea’s case, claiming—that Dylan is his father. His biological father is Adam Newman. |
The August 12 recap explicitly depicts the delivery and naming. Connor is initially portrayed by Brady and Cooper Friedman. soapcentral.com
Johnny Abbott’s birth belongs to the preceding period: his first appearance is April 9, 2012. He is already an infant when this guide begins. Wikipedia
4. Recasts and SORAS
| Character | Casting change | Date | SORAS? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Noah Newman | Robert Adamson succeeds Kevin G. Schmidt | October 1, 2012 | No major new SORAS: Noah was already a young adult. |
| Summer Newman | Hunter King succeeds Lindsay Bushman | October 15, 2012 | Recast rather than a new child-to-teen SORAS. Summer had already been aged into a teenager earlier in 2012. |
| Abby Newman | Melissa Ordway succeeds Emme Rylan | April 16, 2013 | No: both portray adult Abby. |
| Kyle Abbott | Hartley Sawyer succeeds Blake Hood | April 24, 2013 | No: Kyle’s transition to an adult performer occurred with Hood earlier in 2012. |
| Faith Newman | Mckenna Grace begins sharing/alternating the role with Alyvia Alyn Lind | 2013; exact first broadcast not securely verified here | Child recasting, without a teenage or adult age jump. |
| Charlie and Mattie Ashby | Aidan Clark and McKenna Roberts take over the childhood roles | 2013 | A childhood casting/age progression, not their later teenage SORAS. |
The dated adult recasts are supported by performer histories and contemporary casting coverage. en.wikipedia.org Faith’s alternating casting and the Ashby children’s 2013 performers are documented separately. en.wikipedia.org

| September 10, 2012 | Beth Hortense / Brett Butler | Her guest run concludes. |

The guest exits and casting changes are supported by character histories and contemporary reporting. Wikipedia Daniel Romalotti also moves out of the regular story during 2013, but Michael Graziadei makes further appearances that year; describing this as one definitive, permanent departure would be misleading.
7. Returns of former characters
| Date or period | Character | Details |
|---|---|---|
| October 1, 2012 | Noah Newman | Returns to the story with Robert Adamson taking over the role. |
| February 11, 2013 | Abby Newman | Emme Rylan returns after Abby’s temporary absence. |
| March 18, 2013 | Ashley Abbott | Eileen Davidson returns for Victor and Nikki’s wedding. |
| March 18–19, 2013 | Eric Forrester | John McCook reprises his B&B character in Genoa City. |
| 2013 | Cassie Newman | Camryn Grimes returns in appearances as Cassie’s spirit/vision. These are Cassie appearances, not Mariah’s introduction. |
Ashley’s wedding return is confirmed by the broadcaster’s description of the March 18 episode; Eric’s dates are documented in contemporary crossover coverage. en.wikipedia.org
Early September continuation: Katherine’s memorial brings back Brock Reynolds portrayed by Beau Kazer, Amber Moore portrayed by Adrienne Frantz, Gina Roma portrayed by Patty Weaver, Danny Romalotti portrayed by Michael Damian, and Father Todd Williams portrayed by Corbin Bernsen, alongside returning appearances by Christine and Nina. CBS confirms the memorial broadcasts on September 3–4, 2013. These fall outside the working August 30 cutoff. paramountpressexpress.com
8. Weddings
| Date | Couple | Details |
|---|---|---|
| March 18, 2013 | Victor Newman and Nikki Newman | They remarry at the rebuilt ranch, with danger surrounding the celebration. |
| August 9, 2013 | Dylan McAvoy and Chelsea Lawson | Their wedding precedes Connor’s birth, shown on August 12. |
The March wedding is confirmed by Global’s original-airdate listing. For Chelsea and Dylan, the August 9 episode listing identifies the wedding, and the August 12 recap begins with the couple already married. This distinction avoids assigning the ceremony and birth to the same broadcast merely because they occur close together in story time. globaltv
Immediately after the cutoff: Paul Williams and Christine Blair marry on September 4, 2013, during Katherine’s memorial, following her written encouragement. enstarz.com
9. Deaths
| Date | Character | Circumstances |
|---|---|---|
| Early January 2013 | Stephanie Gayle Wheeler | Dies after an encounter at Jack’s house involving drugs and alcohol. Her death connects Jack, Adam and Victor to Congressman Wheeler. |
| March 11, 2013 | Terry McAvoy | Dylan’s father dies following serious health problems. |
| May 7, 2013 | Gus Rogan | Dies following a heart attack, shortly after his exoneration and reunion with his children. |
| Announced August 19, 2013 | Katherine Chancellor | Dies offscreen during her trip with Murphy. The announcement date should not be confused with an onscreen death scene. |
These dates are supported by the character histories and the August episode listings. Wikipedia
Two distinctions matter here:
- Rose Turner’s death occurred in 2007; the 2013 appearances reveal the past.
- Delia Abbott’s death occurs in October 2013, after this guide’s working season range. It belongs to the following period. Wikipedia
10. Y&R / B&B Crossovers
B&B characters appearing on Y&R
| Dates | Character | Crossover |
|---|---|---|
| March 18–19, 2013 | Eric Forrester portrayed by John McCook | Eric comes to Genoa City in connection with Nikki’s wedding gown and attends the Victor–Nikki wedding celebrations. |
Contemporary coverage explicitly gives both broadcast dates. Michael Fairman TV
Y&R characters appearing on B&B
I found no verified appearance by a Y&R character on B&B within the September 2012–August 2013 working range. That is a research finding, rather than a guarantee that every episode credit has been checked.
Shared-character return immediately after the cutoff
Amber Moore portrayed by Adrienne Frantz returns to Y&R for Katherine’s September 3–4 memorial storyline. Because Amber originated on B&B and subsequently became a Y&R regular, this is best described as a shared-character return to Y&R. It should be kept separate from Eric’s March guest crossover and from Y&R characters visiting B&B. CBS includes Frantz among the memorial returnees. paramountpressexpress.com
