It is the annual major gathering and celebration held by the Nation of Islam (NOI), a U.S.-based Black Muslim religious movement. It commemorates the birth of Master W. D. Fard Muhammad, the founder figure of the NOI, whom the movement regards as the “Great Mahdi” of Islam and the Messiah of Christianity.
