Mid January : Michael leaves his townhouse in Manhattan and after a few days of vacation at Neverland, he resumes the recording sessions in Los Angeles with Bruce Swedien.
January 20 : Michael’s co-production credit for the planned “The Nightmares of Edgar Allan Poe” film is reported; Michael read the script in August, and plans to prepare for his leading role.
February : Janet completes the filming of “Nutty Professor 2” (NP2) and she goes to Flyte Time Studios to record “Doesn’t Really Matter” for the NP2 soundtrack.
Michael visits “Stan Lee Media” headquarters in Beverly Hills, California, and is given a tour by Stan Lee, who talks with him about teaming up to buy Marvel.
February 13 : Michael hosts a party for Prince’s 3rd birthday at Neverland with family and friends including Macauley Culkin.
February 27 : A whole episode of E True Hollywood Story is dedicated to LaToya and features an interview of Katherine at Hayvenhurst where she speaks for the first time about LaToya’s reconciliation with the family.
March : Michael stops the recording sessions and leaves for Europe with Grace, Prince & Paris. They spend time with the Chaplin family in Switzerland.
March 13 : Michael cancells a visit to Poland after talks about a theme park project he was involved in broke down. MJ wanted to build a theme park in the city since his first visit there in 1996, but difficulties in finding an appropriate site held up progress.
March 31 : Michael takes Prince & Paris to the Tierpark Hagenbeck Zoo in Hamburg, Germany. The visit takes place after the zoo had closed to the public, ensuring a private experience for the family. While in town they stay at the Schleiter family house with Anton & Frantcheska.
April 03 : Michael hosts a party for Paris 2nd birthday in Hamburg at the Schleiter family house.
May 7 : : Michael arrives in Zurich for a few days and stays at the The Dolder Grand hotel with his children Prince and Paris, at this five-star hotel located on the heights, on the shores of Lake Zurich. Michael takes Prince & Paris to the famous Knie Circus in Zurich.
May 8 : Michael arrives in Monaco with Prince, Paris, Grace, Bob Jones, Karen Faye, Michael Bush & german business man Dieter Wiesner.
May 10 : Prince Albert of Monaco presents Michael with the Artist Of The Millenium Award at the very end of the World Music Awards ceremony in Monaco.
May 12 : Michael, Grace & the kids leave Monaco and go to London where they visit Mark Lester and his family.
May 16 : Janet celebrates her 34th birthday with friends in NYC.
May 21 : “Doesn’t Really Matter” is released as the 1st single from the Nutty Professor II Soundtrack. It peaks at #1 on Hot 100 Billboard.
May 22 : Janet & Eddie Murphy are guests on the Oprah Winfrey Show (in Chicago) to promote NP2.
May 26 : Michael escorts Dame Elizabeth Taylor to a tribute concert honoring her at the Royal Albert Hall in London. At the end of the concert, As Elizabeth takes a standing ovation, Michael walks onto the stage with a huge bouquet of white flowers. Joan Collins and other stars join Elizabeth and Michael on stage.
May 30 : Michael becomes a key investor and partner of HollywoodTicket.com Inc
May 31 : Rene Elizondo reveals during a press conference that he & Janet secretly got married on March 31, 1991 and that they are filing for divorce.
June : Michael & the kids go to Geneva, in Switzerland. They stay at the presidential suite on the third floor (central balcony) of the Hotel d’Angleterre, a five-star hotel located on the shores of Lake Geneva. Michael takes Prince & Paris to visit the Chaplin family at the manor of Ban, or the manor of the Champ de Ban estate, located in Corsier-sur-Vevey, a Swiss commune near Lake Geneva. The property is famous for being the residence of Charlie Chaplin for 25 years, from 1952 until his death in 1977.

Two members of boy band N-Sync, Lance Bass and JC Chasez, introduce him onto stage. MJ is presented with an award for his work fighting cancer from the G&P Foundation. During the event, Michael poses for pictures with President Clinton, Elie Wiesel and Professor Stanley Greenspan.
