Lionsgate is releasing the movie stateside on April 18, 2025, with Universal is handling overseas distribution. Today, Lionsgate announced that it was beginning production on director Antoine Fuqua’s Michael on January 22.
January 18 : The Michael Jackson biopic has found its young King of Pop. Juliano Krue Valdi, a 9-year-old actor, has been cast as Jackson from his early days in the Jackson 5. The film, from director Antoine Fuqua, Lionsgate and Universal Pictures International, will have Valdi playing Jackson “as he and his brothers rise to fame as the Jackson 5, the singing sensation behind such iconic hits as ‘I Want You Back,’ ‘ABC,’ and ‘I’ll Be There,’” it was announced Thursday. “This opportunity is really important to me because Michael Jackson is the King of Pop, and he is very special in my heart,” Valdi said in a statement. “I’ve been dancing to his songs for five years now. He makes me feel really special and makes me feel good about myself. I love the energy of Michael Jackson.”
Prince Jackson and his girlfriend Molly Schirmang attend MJ The Musical Tour currently in Los Angeles until January 28. The couple watched the show which they saw in New York on Broadway and then went backstage to meet the cast.

January 25 : Fresh off receiving his first Oscar nomination, Colman Domingo has been cast as Joe Jackson, the father of Michael Jackson, in the Antoine Fuqua-directed biopic “Michael.”
The casting announcement comes after the news Jackson’s real-life nephew Jaafar would portray the King of Pop, with 9-year-old Juliano Krue Valdi tackling the singer during his early days.
“It’s exciting to do it with Jaafar,” Domingo tells Variety exclusively during an upcoming episode of the Awards Circuit Podcast. “Jermaine Jackson’s son is playing Michael, and he is breathtaking, and I think Graham King, the producer, has assembled an incredible cast.”

Nia Long is joining the Jackson family. The actor will star in Michael, the biopic of late pop star Michael Jackson. Long will portray Katherine Jackson, family matriarch to the Jackson musical family, Lionsgate announced Tuesday. Director Antoine Fuqua praised Long in a statement, saying he was excited to “work alongside her as she pours all of that into Katherine Jackson: a woman who was the glue, the rock, and the heart of the Jackson family during its best and its most turbulent times.”

February 02 : Another Michael Jackson song called “Seven Digits” on a DAT tape will be auctioned on February 7 by Los Angeles Estate Auction. Writers Bryan Loren, this master tape was recorded around 1991 and contains the song but also an extensive 1-hour and 13-minute session of Michael Jackson’s practice and workout routines, providing an intimate look into his artistic process. “Seven Digits” is an unreleased track, Recorded in high-quality digital audio, the tape is in excellent condition, preserving the clarity and integrity of the recording.
February 03 : Wade Robson and James Safechuck are now asking the judge to combine their cases and allow them to go to trial together. “This motion is made on the grounds that all actions arise out of the same type of harmful, abusive, course of conduct, by the same Defendants, at the same locations and physical places, in the presence of the same employees, employed by Defendants, during the same time period, in a pattern of abuse that was common to both Plaintiffs,” their lawyers stated in court documents. The trial conference on the motion is still set for February 28 before Judge Mark A. Young for the Robson’s case.

February 06 : Lionsgate and Universal Pictures International have made it official : Miles Teller is joining Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic Michael. The attorney that Teller will be playing is John Branca, who shepherded the King of Pop’s career as he transitioned from a singing sensation in a boy band to world-renowned mega star. Branca is also producing the movie with John McClain; they are co-executors of Jackson’s estate.
February 08 : As we know, the Michael Jackson is in production right now in Los Angeles and after only a hand full of cast members announced, with the latest being Miles Teller playing John Branca, passerby in Los Angeles have captured the first images of the shoot. We can see Colman Domingo and Nia Long dressed as Michael Jackson’s parents Joe and Katherine Jackson. Also spotted is the TikToker Juliano Valdi who is playing young Michael and other actors playing the young Jackson 5 brothers. The pictures, the costumes and location suggest that the scenes are for the early days of the Jackson family when they moved in Los Angeles in 1968.

In what is apparently the conclusion of a deal that Variety tipped a year ago, Sony Music Group has completed a transaction to acquire half of Michael Jackson’s publishing and recorded masters in a transaction that values the total catalog at around $1.2 billion, and possibly more, sources confirm to Variety. Billboard reports that Sony will pay at least $600 million for the stake. If accurate, the deal is the biggest for a single music artist’s assets to date.

Nathaniel McIntyre is a young actor who has been doing voice over for cartoons such as “Team Umizoomi” and “Tickety Toc”, he also appeared in few TV shows with the latest being “The Equalizer” (2022). Now, Nathaniel will be playing young Jackie Jackson in the Estate’s biopic. Jayden Harville has currently not done major work in TV or cinema but has been part of a choir which might have lead him to become young Jermaine Jackson.

Nia Long joined Jaafar on set here on Thursday … remember, she’s playing Michael’s mother, Katherine Jackson. She’s also fully transformed — and pretty unrecognizable.
New court documents from the Estate vs Katherine Jackson case have emerged regarding the secret deal which is now obviously the sale of 50% of Michael Jackson Music Catalog (MIJAC) to Sony. Katherine has revealed that two of Michael’s children have objected to the deal. But despite the rebuttal, the judge granted the motion and approved the deal: “The proposed transaction is approved, and the executors are authorized and instructed to take all actions necessary to implement the proposed transaction, including but not limited to signing all contracts and performing all obligations required of the estate.” The executors were ordered to respond to Katherine’s appeal brief by January 30. No response was filed by the due date. The sale of the music catalog was announced on February 9. It’s unclear if Katherine and the executors reached a deal before the news of the sale was announced.
February 16, 2024 : New pics of Jaafar on set : Some people in L.A. probably did a double take Friday thinking they saw Michael Jackson walking around. But it was actually the spitting image of the late “King of Pop” — namely his nephew, Jaafar Jackson, who was on his way to shoot scenes for MJ’s upcoming biopic, “Michael.”. Check out these photos, obtained by TMZ, which show Jaafar on the movie set, sporting MJ’s famous red varsity jacket next to a Tower Records pop-up shop and a huge ad promoting the entertainer’s 1979 album, “Off The Wall “.
February 20 : The Estate agrees to let Robson & Safechuck combine their cases
Lawyers for Michael Jackson’s companies informed the court that they are agreeing with Wade Robson and James Safechuck’s plea to consolidate their lawsuits into one case. This motion to combine cases was filled at the beginning of the month. The Estate also requested to move the case to the Complex Litigation Program which means the case will move court location in Los Angeles.

February 27 : Lionsgate and Universal Pictures International have announced the eight actors set to portray members of the Jackson 5 — Jermaine, Marlon, Tito and Jackie — at various stages of their lives in the Michael Jackson biopic Michael.
Jamal R. Henderson and Jayden Harville will play the respective older and younger versions of Jermaine Jackson, Tre Horton and Jaylen Lyndon Hunger will play Marlon, Rhyan Hill and Judah Edwards are Tito, and Joseph David-Jones and Nathaniel Logan McIntyre have been cast as Jackie.
“The truly epic nature of this film required a total of 10 actors with the talent to portray the Jackson 5 through the years,” said King. “I’m thrilled to bring this extraordinary group of actors and performers to worldwide audiences in this film.”
February 28 : Pre trial hearing in the Robson case : No trial date set. Trial readiness hearing is June 5, 2024. Judge wants their reports by May 22, 2024. All other info I have to wait for. “A lawyer for Jackson’s companies said during the hearing that her clients plan to waive a three-year speedy trial rule because she believes the case won’t be ready for jurors until after December 2026. She said the trial likely would last more than 20 days with dozens of witnesses.” Estate is looking for December of 2026 or later for trial.
MJ Estate attorneys on discovery: “Before this case can be tried, there are numerous discovery issues and legal issues that need to be addressed, making it impractical to have this matter ready for trial within 12 months. …The deposition of third- party Charli Michaels remains open and needs to be completed. Robson’s deposition was also left open. As discussed below, however, there is extensive additional discovery needed as a result of Robson’s participation in the Leaving Neverland film.”
Wade & James express they are open to alternative dispute resolutions via mediation. This is common when hoping to reach a pre-trial settlement. (Contradicting their “we just want a platform to speak!”) The defense is NOT open to any ADR.

Taj Jackson : “I am privy to knowing a lot of what is coming way down the MJ pipeline and what isn’t. And because of that, I have access to certain news and info that affects EVERYTHING in the Michael Jackson universe. There really is a strategy to all of this, and like chess…the bigger the pieces, the more important the moves are. The way I do things might not make complete sense at first to some of you, but I am ALWAYS doing what’s best for the project and ultimately my uncle. Even to the detriment to my own self, health, family or career. I do need to find a better balance though.
Which leads me to my next thought. I’m taking you along with me on this journey. Maybe then we will get a better understanding together and you will see the magnitude and progress of the project firsthand. That means vlogs, behind the scenes footage and clips in upcoming updates. But this silence thing is not working for either you or me.
Of course I will still keep some nice surprises along the way, because where’s the fun of knowing everything 🙂 We fought side by side these years fighting for MJ’s legacy. I need you side by side with me now. Not in the dark. I’m done with feeling isolated, alone and vulnerable.
I am welcoming more transparency, within limitations of course. And you guys will have to trust that if I cannot say, comment, or address something publicly, there really is a bigger and important reason. That being said, I want you guys to know there has been a slight alteration in the name of the project. Well we actually went back to one of the original names we had. Certain people close to me and also many of you suggested that the phrase “Re_Righting” could have a negative connotation… as if I we were trying to re-write history by altering the facts and truth. Of course this is the farthest thing from what I would do. But that has never stopped the press .
And knowing the media, they would run with this anyway. I could see it now… Mainstream Media Version: The nephew of Michael Jackson wants to re-write his uncle’s troubled past. Or how about the Tabloid version: Michael Jacksons’s nephew desperately attempts to re-write Jacko’story… not so fast!
So we are back to…. “Righting HIStory” Just as strong, powerful and direct.. In the end I am righting the wrong about my uncle’s legacy.”

Harrier, of “BlacKkKlansman” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming” fame, will portray pioneering female music executive Suzanne de Passe in the Lionsgate project.
De Passe was a creative assistant to Motown founder Berry Gordy, and is credited with convincing Gordy to sign The Jackson 5 to his label. De Passe costumed the world famous family group in early days, and later played a critical role in bringing the band and other Motown sensations to live television. She worked closely with Michael Jackson from childhood, standing by him as a teacher and mentor, helping him navigate the music business.
March 08 : This morning, Prince Jackson is a guest on Sam Rubin on KTLA Entertainment to talk about the upcoming biopic.
A reporter, Matthew Belloni of Puck, has written a piece allegedly saying he read a version of the script for the upcoming Michael Jackson Biopic “Michael” and the press are loving it. According to Belloni, an iteration of the screenplay he allegedly read will dig deep into the accusations. We already knew that as the Estate and director Antoine Fuqua already stated that. “If the script as written ends up onscreen—which is a big caveat here because words and scenes are often changed during shoots, and not everything goes in the final cut—this will be super controversial,” wrote Belloni. “It not only engages, it wants very much to convince you Michael is innocent”.
According to court documents, John Branca and John McCain asked a California appeals court to reject Katherine’s recent petition. They said the proposed transaction could net the estate over $400 million. The executors asked the court to dismiss Katherine’s concerns. They said she had a history of objecting to deals they secured. McClain and Branca pointed to the concert film This is It! — which they said pulled in a $60 million advance and a substantial back-end for the estate despite Katherine’s objection to the project. Katherine testified that she did not like the deal. She said Paris and Bigi were on her side.

March 15 : Prince Jackson and John Branca are spotted on the set of the upcoming Michael Jackson Biopic in Los Angeles. Making a supportive visit to the cast and crew during production, Prince Jackson engaged with those involved in the filming of the movie chronicling his father’s life. Jaafar Jackson was obviously filming a scene for the movie dressed in a red and white varsity jacket, dark jeans and red patent leather boots. Variety reports that a reliable source close to production revealed that at least one other family member besides Jaafar is present on set every single day of filming. Meanwhile, KeiLyn Durrel Jones is the actor playing Bill Bray. KeiLyn is known for his role in “Time After Time” (2017), “Jessica Jones” series (2015) and “Out of the Blue” (2022).

March 22 : Bigi Jackson doesn’t want Katherine to appeal against the Estate.
But on Monday, filed a court document saying that there is no point to appeal against the Estate. “It is readily apparent that a reversal on appeal would be an extreme longshot, given those odds, Bigi decided not to waste his resources to participate in an appeal. Nonetheless, Katherine has decided to appeal this court’s ruling. That decision is not for the benefit of the heirs.”In conclusion, Bigi has gave up the fight against the Estate and this court case might have damaged the relationship between members of the Jackson family.
March 23 : Filming on the Toys R Us set of the Michael Jackson biopic takes place in Burbank, California.
Thomas Mesereau has filed a 14 page questionnaire which will grill former Neverland Ranch Security Guard who previously claimed to have seen Michael Jackson touching accuser Wade Robson. Charli Michaels, former employee at the Neverland Ranch, claimed to have witnessed the inappropriate behaviour and came to light in 1993 during the Jordan Chandler trial.

The Michael Jackson biopic Michael from Lionsgate and Universal Pictures International has added seven in key roles : Larenz Tate will be playing Motown Records founder Berry Gordy. Tate can be seen in multiple TV Series such as “The Twilight Zone” (1985), “21 Jump Street” (1989), “South Central” (1994), “Power” (2017-2020). Kat Graham will be playing the iconic Diana Ross. Graham is an actress, singer, dancer and producer and has worked on multiple movies and TV series such as “The Vampire Diaries” (2009-2017), “17 again” (2009) and many more, including music videos. Jessica Sula will play the role of LaToya Jackson. Liv Symone as Gladys Knight, Kevin Shinick as Dick Clark (American Bandstand host) and Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones.
March 26 : Katherine Jackson refused to back down from the Estate
After Bigi Jackson stated in court that he doesn’t think the Estate should pay for Katherine Jackson’s appear to the “secret” deal (MIJAC sold to Sony), Katherine Jackson is fighting back on the comment and against the Estate refusing to pay for her legal team. In her newly filed motion, Katherine said despite the executors’ claims her petition did identify the source from which the requested payment should be made. Her lawyer added, “It seems clear to her that the Executors are holding all of the assets in the Estate in order to keep control over them, and to avoid the more liberal distribution requirements of the Trust.” In addition, Katherine argued the estate is “currently holding something in the range of $1.5 billion.” She said, “this vastly exceeds its potential liabilities and leaves hundreds of millions of dollars available for the remainder beneficiaries.”

The Estate is fighting to keep sealed photos of Michael from 1993 : Michael Jackson Estate is fighting to keep sealed court records out of the hands of Robson and Safechuck ahead of trial. Robson and Safechuck’s lawyers have subpoenas the county sheriff’s offices and the district attorneys of Los Angeles and Santa Barbara counties to obtain sealed police records from the 1993 case. The Estate believes that Robson and Safechuck’s are after those photos taken by the police.

“Michael” Trailer debuts at CinemaCon
On Wednesday, cinemagoers were surprised with the trailer of the upcoming biopic about the King of Pop, “Michael” at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Producer Graham King revealed the project will include more than 30 songs and teased it would be “long” in order to do the music star’s story justice. The trailer began with a look at the Jackson 5 performing “ABC” on TV, and then cut to a 1990s-era concert of Jackson performing “Man in the Mirror.” There are also images of a masked Jackson being hounded by fans and paparazzi. Jackson’s real-life nephew Jaafar Jackson stars as Michael, and in the trailer has a strong resemblance to his uncle and appears to have captured his dancing and stage presence. “You never were like anyone else,” Jackson’s mother (portrayed in the biopic by Nia Long) says at one point in the trailer. In voice-over, a grown-up Jackson says of performing: “It transports your entire being. That’s what I want the world to feel like — magic.”
Some of the footage shown to the exhibitor crowd today at the Caesars Colosseum appears to take place during the Off the Wall era as well as that of Bad — “Man in the Mirror” is a key song heard throughout. We also see the pop singer’s nephew Jaafar Jackson performing onstage as the King of Pop. At one point, his voice-over says, “When I’m not on stage, everything feels foreign to me.”
A voice-over from what appears to be his mother Katherine Jackson adds, “You have a very special light, so let the light shine into the world.”

Two more actors have been added to the list for “Michael”, the biopic about the King of Pop. Derek Luke, seen in “Captain America: The First Avenger”, “The Purge” and “Antwone Fisher”, will play Jonnie Cochran. The second actor added to the list is Allan Wayne Anderson mostly known for his roles in “Trace”, “Gaslit” and “NoHo: A North Hollywood Story”, who will play the famous Andy Warhol. Meanwhile, Siedah Garrett, back up singer on the Dangerous Tour, Co-writer of “Man In The Mirror” and “Keep The Faith” and duet singer for “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You”, confirmed that her name will not be used in the biopic.

According to court documents, the Robson and Safechuck’s trial might be set to August 17, 2026. Depending on the judge’s confirmation on June 5, it seems that all parties are in agreement despite earlier reports that the “plaintiffs” wanted the court date to be before the release of the upcoming Michael Jackson Biopic next April. Court documents also showcase that Robson and Safechuck proposed a settlement stated that the Estate admit that Michael Jackson abused them during their childhood. However, the Estate’s team has no interest in settling saying those allegations are “unequivocally” false.

Michael Jackson Biopic Will “Be the Biggest Movie We’ve Ever Had,” Lionsgate Exec Says
Lionsgate president, Jim Packer, believes “Michael” could become the Hollywood studio’s biggest film ever. “The buzz that we’re getting every time a photo gets released is kind of crazy. And I think that’ll be the biggest movie we’ve ever had,” Packer forecasts. As it stands, Lionsgate’s highest-grossing movie ever is 2013’s “Hunger Games: Catching Fire” which racked up $865M worldwide. It’s quite clear they are hoping “Michael” clears, or comes close to, the $1B mark. The film only cost $155M to produce.

June 18 : CineEurope taking place between 17 and 20 June 2024 in Barcelona, has the privilege to have a look at an early version trailer, the same as the one played at CinemaCon last April in Las Vegas. Michael producer Graham King presented the five-minute clip, which focussed on the making of Jackson’s Thriller video. It’s been in development for seven years, said King, and that production has finally wrapped. Antoine Fuqua, Michael director, is currently hard at work editing the film along with his team. If it’s anything like the clip audiences saw, it’ll be worth the wait.

During an interview with Andy Cohen on Radio Andy, Colman Domingo spoke about the upcoming movie titled Michael. Domingo, 54, stars in the film as the Jackson family patriarch, Joe Jackson. Domingo told Cohen the biopic, which takes place over 30 years of Michael’s life, will tackle “a lot of things that are epic and monumental.” “I think the whole point of this biopic is to really humanize Michael and really show like the making of Michael and who he is, and so it deals with a lot of things,” he shared. August 21 : It’s over for Katherine Jackson vs The Estate
After nearly two years of legal disputes concerning Michael Jackson’s estate, a Los Angeles court has ruled in favor of the estate’s co-executors, dismissing Katherine Jackson’s ongoing objections to a proposed catalog sale with a significant price tag. Katherine, 94, had repeatedly contested the decision after attorney John Branca and A&R executive John McClain, co-executors of Michael’s estate and trustees of the Michael Jackson Family Trust, secured a probate court ruling last year. This ruling permitted them to proceed with a reported $600 million sale of half of Michael’s music catalogue to Sony.
August 22 : Judge says no to use the precedent criminal case files
A California judge ruled in favor of Michael Jackson’s estate on Thursday (August 22), denying a request by accusers Wade Robson and James Safechuck to access “the entirety of the criminal file” related to child molestation allegations against Michael Jackson in Santa Barbara County and Los Angeles County dating back to the early 1990s. The request included photographs of Michael Jackson’s nude body and genitalia taken during a 1993 criminal investigation. Although the plaintiffs disagree with the structure of the discovery and motion schedule proposed by the defense, they have agreed to the defendant’s request for a trial date in 2026 or sooner, depending on the availability of the court and defense counsel. During an April 26, 2024, meet-and-confer, the defendants proposed a trial date of August 17, 2026. The plaintiffs did not object to this date or suggest any alternatives. The next court date is scheduled for October 22.

Cirque du Soleil and the Michael Jackson Estate just announced that the show will stay in Las Vegas a bit longer. MJ ONE has been extending its stay at Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino until November 2030. This cast and staff of MJ ONE have been working hard to revamp the show for over two weeks led by Jamie King and it is now ready for the fans to see with a big reveal on Michael Jackson Birthday Celebrations this week.
August 29 : Frank and the other Respondents try to pressure MJ Estate into submission with a menacing extortionate threat (communicated through his lawyer), asserting, “We expect a substantive response by end of day tomorrow. Otherwise, we will be forced to expand the ‘circle of knowledge’ so my team can prepare a complaint.” The email continues with an ominous rhetorical inquiry whether “the materiality of this claim has been revealed by the estate to
the buyer of the catalogue.” This is a transparent threat to go public with spurious damaging accusations in the guise of a sham public lawsuit and to damage the value of the Michael Jackson music catalogue, unless MJ Estate agrees to satisfy the astronomical financial demands, notwithstanding
that MJ Estate has already paid Respondents to put an end to the 2019 shakedown in exchange for terms including confidentiality, comprehensive releases, and agreement to mandatory arbitration of all future disputes.

Police identified the man as Tito Jackson, who was transported in an ambulance to a local hospital in Gallup. He is later pronounced dead. Tito had moved out of California to the countryside of Claremore, OK earlier this year, according to Tulsa World.

EXCLUSIVE: Michael Jackson’s Thriving Estate Targeted in $213 Million ‘Shakedown’ Effort. : Jackson family, friends and fans find out about the Cascio situation : “In 2019, there was ‘Leaving Neverland,’ which was a complete surprise hit job,” Branca said in an exclusive interview with the Black Press of America’s “Let It Be Known.” “We didn’t know it was coming and weren’t asked for comment. And the media didn’t want to hear Michael’s story. MGM was threatening to cancel the Cirque show. We wouldn’t have been able to mount a Broadway show. There were a lot of things that would have gone south. We have a fiduciary responsibility to maximize the income of the estate, and our counsel insisted we sign the agreement. So, we did it with a mutual nondisclosure. And they didn’t want it disclosed either because Michael’s fans would have gone after these people (…). We and they signed this nondisclosure agreement, and the nondisclosure said you can’t even tell people there’s an agreement,” Branca explained. “It was awkward because we were making a movie with Antoine Fuqua and Graham King. And we couldn’t tell anybody about it, including the filmmakers (…). The recent demand for $213 million and the threat of making salacious claims have pushed the estate to take legal action.”

October 01 : Frank Cascio’s attorney delivers an envelope to MJ Estate counsel, containing a pair of draft lawsuits riddled with outlandish scurrilous allegations that are completely inconsistent with what Frank and his cohorts had insisted
for years in their unyielding defense of Michael. Ominously, the envelope contains no cover letter or explanatory note. It was apparent that the delivery was a threat to file a public lawsuit in court (and not in confidential arbitration as contractually mandated) containing the incendiary accusations unless Respondents’ demand for hundreds of millions of dollars was satisfied.

Netflix announced that the spooky short film Sing: Thriller is set to debut Wednesday on the streaming service. Hailing from Illumination and Universal Pictures, the project returns franchise director Garth Jennings and voice actors Matthew McConaughey (playing Buster Moon), Tori Kelly (Meena), Nick Kroll (Gunter), Scarlett Johansson (Ash), Taron Egerton (Johnny) and Jennings (Miss Crawly). Sing: Thriller follows Buster (McConaughey) and his friends staging an elaborate version of the Michael Jackson hit “Thriller” for a Halloween party. The crew later realizes that a mysterious ooze has transformed the attendees into dancing freaks. The short film is based on the 1983 music video for the smash single “Thriller.” Rod Temperton wrote the music and lyrics for the song that is featured on Jackson’s album of the same name, which remains the best-selling album of all time.
October 17 : The Jacksons : “Our upcoming Hard Rock shows on October 25th and November 1st mark The Jacksons’ first performances since the heartbreaking loss of our brother Tito last month. These special presentations will honor both Tito and Michael, celebrating their legacy through music and memories”.
Michael Jackson’s legal team has added a new attorney to address the Robson and Safechuck case. Court documents reveal that Benjamin R. Barron, an attorney from Keller/Anderle LLP, has informed the court of his involvement in representing Michael’s companies, MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures. Barron will work alongside Thomas Mesereau and two other firms in defending the companies against the claims brought by Wade Robson and James Safechuck. Having joined the firm in June, Barron is now part of the defense team.
October 22 : Save the Children is a documentary film directed by Stan Lathan and written by Matt Robinson. The concert documentary film chronicles performers that appeared during Jesse Jackson’s Operation PUSH exposition held in 1972 in Chicago. The film was released on September 18, 1973 and features the Jackson 5. Netflix just restored the footage digitally and re-release the documentary on their platform!

The Heal Los Angeles Foundation hosts their “This Is Thriller” event at the Palace Theatre in Los Angeles. To celebrate the occasion, Prince Jackson and his team transformed the Palace Theatre—particularly its facade—into a scene reminiscent of the iconic Thriller video, marking its 40th anniversary. The 2 hours event, of course, started with a dance off on “Thriller” by “Thrill The World” LA team. Followed by watching “The Making of Thriller” and an onstage interview of Rick Baker, the man behind the make-up and special effects of the famous Thriller Short film. Fans present were also for a treat (or trick) as Allan “Big Al” Scanlan, Vincent Paterson, Kevin Stea (Black or White & Blood On The Dance Floor dancer) Ola Ray, Rushka Bergman and Karen Langford representing the Estate, were in the room.
October 30 : Lionsgate expects a box office that exceeds the $2B mark worldwide
Earlier this year, reports emerged that Lionsgate, following a string of seven consecutive box office flops, has set exceptionally high expectations for Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming Michael Jackson biopic. The studio is reportedly confident the film could reach the $1 billion mark at the box office upon its release early next year. A Chinese press release has Universal/Lionsgate confirming that the film will be getting a huge marketing campaign with unprecedented promotion and investments as they expect a box office that exceeds the $2B mark worldwide. The press release goes on to describe MJ as the biggest foreign star in Chinese history.

November 04 : Quincy Jones, who distinguished himself over the course of a 70-year career in music as an artist, bandleader, composer, arranger and producer, has died. He was 91. Jones died Sunday night at his home in the Bel Air neighborhood of Los Angeles, according to a statement shared with Variety by his rep Arnold Robinson. A cause of death was not disclosed.

Michael Jackson Biopic Moonwalks To Fall 2025
EXCLUSIVE: Lionsgate‘s Antoine Fuqua directed Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, is moving out of next year’s Easter frame of April 18-20 and to Oct. 3, 2025. Universal is handling the overseas release of the movie which stars the King of Pop’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, in the title role. The Graham King produced Michael is now positioned in the awards corridor next year. Previously, King’s Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, opened on Nov. 2, 2018 to $51M stateside and went on to gross $216.4M stateside and $903.6M worldwide plus four Oscar wins.

For the first time since starting this project, I have had to take a selfish break from “Righting HIStory”. Since September 15, the day my dad died, I have felt completely lost. My dad was my biggest supporter and the one who believed in me when no one else did. Whenever I doubted my abilities, he was there to push me to overcome that doubt. He believed in “Righting HIStory” so much that he even wrote and signed a quick statement in order to help me secure outside investors for this project. A lot of the strength and courage I draw upon to fight for my uncle Michael’s legacy came directly from watching my dad. He was always calm, cool, and, most importantly, authentic. My dad’s steadfast loyalty to Michael never wavered. He was a tireless advocate for his brother, always ready to stand up and correct misconceptions. He did it with a quiet dignity that showed the depth of their bond. Watching him defend Michael with such passion and grace taught me so much about loyalty, integrity, and standing up for what you believe in. I will forever be grateful for the example he set.
My dad’s brotherly pride in Michael was immeasurable. He celebrated every one of Michael’s milestones as if they were his own, cherishing each moment of his brother’s success. Even after Michael passed, my dad dedicated himself to protecting his younger brother’s character, sharing personal stories that revealed the kind, generous man Michael truly was. I know the strength I have to continue fighting for Michael’s legacy comes from my dad. He wasn’t just Michael’s bigger brother—he was his friend, protector, and one of his most loyal supporters. I’m proud to carry on that fight, inspired by the man who taught me how.
