January 5 : Michael gives a moving speech to claim his innocence at the NAACP Image Awards Ceremony at Pasadena Civic Auditorium. He also presents the award for Best Choreographer to Debbie Allen.
January 6 : Michael writes a letter to “Bravo” magazine, thanking them for their love and support during his fight for his innocence.
January 12 : Michael wins the trial for “The Girl Is Mine”, “Thriller” & “We Are The World”.
January 16 : Michael invites a group of disadvantaged children to spend the day at Neverland on Martin Luther King’s birthday.
January 17 : Recording sessions for Michael’s new album is scheduled to begin at Record One studio in Sherman Oaks but are canceled after the Northridge earthquake strikes that morning at 4:30 am causing devastation to the downtown Los Angeles area.
January 24 : Los Angeles prosecutors announce that they do not have enough evidence to charge Evan Chandler with extorsion…
January 25 : Michael & Chandler’s lawyers reach an agreement to settle the civil case. The Chandlers agree to withdraw their complaint against a confidential financial compensation and the trial is cancelled.

Late January : After the Hayvenhurst estate was damaged by the Northridge earthquake. Katherine, Joseph, Alejandra, Randy, Genevieve, Randy Jr, Jermaine and Lea Bongo move to a a mansion in Beverly Park during renovations. Michael pays for the renovations and the rented mansion (40 000 dollars a month).
February 01 : Michael phones Lisa Marie Presley at her estate in Hidden Hills, California while he stays at his hide out in Westwood and invites her to Las Vegas.
February 02 : Michael attends a concert of The Temptations at the Sheraton Desert Inn of Las Vegas with his date Lisa Marie Presley.
February 5 : Michael starts recording his new album at the Hit Factory Studio in New York City. He takes residence at the Helmsley Palace. Brad Buxer, Bill Bottrell, Matt Forger, Brad Sunberg, Rene Moore and Bruce Swedien join him to work on new songs. Frank & Eddie visit him often as well as the 3T, Austin Brown (Rebbie’s son) & Deepack Choprah.
February 9 : Santa Barbara ‘s District Attorney, Thomas Sneddon Jr & Los Angeles ‘ District Attorney Gill Garcetty both set up a Grand Jury to determine if there is enough evidence to indict Michael and put him through a criminal trial. Miko Brando is among the first to testify.
February 14 : Michael goes to a Denver courtroom to testify that he did not steal the song “Dangerous” from Crystal Cartier as she proclaims.
February 15 : Michael wins this new trial!
February 18 : LaToya tapes an interview with Geraldo regarding the Jackson Family Honors. LaToya says that Johnnie Cochran threatened her career and says that Michael settled to silence Jordy. Jackson family friend Florence Anthony defends Michael on the same show.
February 19 : The whole Jackson family (except LaToya) is reunited at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas to rehearse & tape The Jackson Family Honors TV Special which is broadcasted a few days later around the world. Michael does not perform but he presents two lifetime achievement awards to Berry Gordy & Elizabeth Taylor . His date for the night is Lisa Marie Presley. At the end Michael sings the song “If You’d Only Believe” with the whole family (except LaToya & Janet). The Jacksons performs “2300 Jackson Street” with Rebbie & the grandchildren including 3T.
February 21 : Michael invites Lisa Marie and her children to Neverland.
LaToya is a guest on “La Toya Jackson strikes back”, a special episode of Geraldo. She once again accuses Michael : “When he says that he is innocent. I know that he isn’t. I believe something has been going on”.
February 27 : LaToya gives another TV interview from Las Vegas to E to explains why she refused to appear on The Jackson Family Honors TV Special.

A Palm Beach resident claims to have seen Michael walking the beach at 7 am”.
Big Boy, the first ever Jackson 5 single is re-released by Ben Brown, the owner of Steeltown Records along with previously unreleased material from the 1968 recording sessions at his studio.

July : Michael directs a recording of “Christmas Star” from the “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” soundtrack with a children’s choir, decorating the studio with fake snow, a Christmas Tree, a sleigh, Christmas lights and endless decorations.

July 25 : The Jackson camp, confronted with the news splashed across the front page of Santo Domingo’s leading daily newspaper. Listin Diario on July 11, says the tale is fiction. “There was no marriage,” says spokesperson Lee Solters. Presley’s people say the reports sound false, but they also admit they couldn’t immediately locate the alleged bride—who announced her separation from her musician husband, Danny Keough, just three months ago. Jerry Schilling, her former manager and lifelong friend, says that until he hears it straight from Lisa Marie, he won’t believe a word. “Too tabloidish,” he says.
July 26 + 27 : Janet gives two concerts at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Michael attends the concerts disguised in Cheik Arab.
August 01 : Michael and Lisa Marie announce that they got married weeks earlier in the Dominican Republic. Lisa Marie, 26, Elvis Presley’s only child, issued a statement confirming the whispers that had been swirling for 11 weeks: She had indeed wed the 35-year-old pop genius : “My marriage to Michael took place in a private ceremony outside the United States weeks ago,” Presley-Jackson’s statement continued. “I am very much in love with Michael, I dedicate my life to being his wife. I understand and support him. We both look forward to raising a family. My married name is Mrs. Lisa Marie Presley-Jackson,” said the announcement, issued three weeks after a Dominican Republic judge produced a marriage license for all to see, dated May 26 and bearing the couple’s signatures.
August 05 : Michael & Lisa Marie arrive in Budapest (Hongria) and make their first public appearance together as a married couple causing a media frenzy.
August 06 : Michael and Lisa Marie visit two children’s facilities in Budapest, Hungary: the Heim Pal Hospital For Children and the Bethesda Hospital.
August 07 : Michael shoots a teaser for his forthcoming album with an army of Russian soldiers. He arrives on the scene around noon, accompanied by his wife Lisa Marie Presley and shaded by a huge raspberry color umbrella being carried by his assistant Jimmy Safechuck.
August 08 : Second day of filming of the HIStory teaser in Budapest, Hungary. At the end of the day, MJ and LMP visit the sick children at Bethesda Children’s Hospital in Budapest. They meet little Bela Farkas, an orphaned boy who needs a transplant. Moved by his story, Michael decides to finance the operation he needs to be saved.
August 09 : Michael & Lisa Marie fly back to New York where Michael resumes the recording of his new album.

August 23 : Michael’s signing of “Brownstone”, a female contemporary R&B trio group, on his “MJJ Music” label, results in the release of their debut single, “Pass the Lovin'”.
August 27 : Michael hosts the wedding of Miko Brando & Karen Hamilton which takes place at Neverland (he is Miko’s best man). But he has to leave when he learns the tragic death of Dee Dee Jackson ( Tito’s ex wife and mother of the 3T) who was found dead in her swimming pool by her boyfriend Donald Bohana. The Jackson family gathers at Hayvenhurst to support Tito and his kids the 3T.
Late August/Early September : Janet invites her nephews to spend a few days at her Malibu beach home to rest and prepare for the funerals. The whole family (except LaToya) attends Dee Dee’s funerals. Michael pays for the funerals and later he invites 3T to New York and produces their first album “Brotherhood”
September 2 : Michael and Lisa Marie land in Concorde at Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris. Then, they fly to Nice aboard a private Boeing belonging to the Saudi Prince Al Whaleed. In the middle of the night, at 2 a.m.,they arrive at the Majestic Hotel in Cannes.
September 3 : Michael and Lisa Marie get up at 12 p.m.. They have breakfast and go to Port Canto (near Nice) to meet Prince Al Whaleed who has invited them to lunch aboard his yacht, the Kingdom. The meeting is at 2 p.m. He & Michael want to launch a production company together. Later that afternoon, Michael and Lisa Marie go shopping in Cannes.
September 4 : Michael and Lisa visit Disneyland Paris
September 5 : Michael & Lisa walk the shopping strip, rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré in Paris, popping in to the Gianni Versace store and Elysee Palace. They also visited Louis XIV’s palace and the Palace of Versailles.
September 6 : Michael & Lisa take a flight from Paris to NYC.
September 8 : Michael & Lisa Marie open the MTV Video Music Awards Ceremony with a big kiss live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Janet attends the ceremony where she accepts an award for “If”.
September 11 : Michael and Lisa Marie Presley appear on the cover of Sunday magazine with a full Jackson Wedding Album Inside.
September 12 : Michael’s interview with Randy Taborelli, discussing his relationship with Lisa Marie, is published in “Daily Mirror”.

October 10 : Michael and Lisa Marie visit almost every room in the St. Jude’s Hospital in downtown Memphis, Tennessee. The pair hands out toys, signed autographs & chat with the sick children.
Early November : Janet, Terry Lewis & Jimmy Jam go the Hit Factory in New York to work on “Scream” with Michael.
November 5 : The Black & White magazine team (Laurent Hopman, Julien Derain and Christophe Boulmé) visit Michael at the Hit Factory Studio in New York and get to listen to three songs from the new album (“Earth Song”, “Stranger In Moscow” and “Smile”). They present an artwork to MJ. MJ show them the “History” teaser and album cover. They also get to interview Bruce Swedien who tell them that MJ & Janet are currently recording a duet together and Prince recently visited MJ in the studio.
December : Michael goes to Chicago to record the song “You Are Not Alone” with R Kelly. While in Chicago, Michael makes a photoshoot for the album’s booklet with his nephews Jeremy & Jourdynn & his cousins Elijah & Levon. From Chicago, Michael goes to Minneapolis via a private Amtrak coach. Michael records extra vocals for “Scream” in Minneapolis, but it’s mostly his original vocal in October that’s the one ultimately used in the track.
Michael does a photoshoot with photographer Steve Whitsitt for the cover of planned “Smile” single. He imitates Charlie Chaplin for the photoshoot.
December 10 : Adrian Grant visits Michael in Chicago where he is recording songs with producer R Kelly.
December 17 : Michael sends a video message for the 5th annual “Michael Jackson Day”, a fan event in London, England by “Off the Wall” magazine writer Adrian Grant; Michael’s film crew is there to tape the event.
December 24/25 : Michael makes a break in the recording sessions to celebrate Christmas at Neverland with Lisa Marie, her children and the Cascio family.
