January 28 : Michael attends the 30th Golden Globe Awards at the International Ballroom – The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills with Katherine and Joe. He takes the stage to perform “Ben”, nominated for Best Song, Motion Picture, for the movie of the same title. Minutes later, the song – already a hit at the box office – wins the Golden Globe.

April 22 : The Jackson 5 (+ Randy) arrive in Tokyo; Japan with Joe, Katherine, Bob Jones, Rose Fine and Johnny Jackson . While in Japan, they take time to visit Buddhist temples, art museums and the Oriental Gardens of the Takanawa Prince Hotel.
April 24 : The Jackson 5 (with Joe) give a press conference in Tokyo about the upcoming Tokyo Music Festival. They perform on a Japonese TV Show
April 27 : The Jackson 5 give a concert at the Imperial Theater in Tokyo.

November 3 : In Los Angeles, The Jackson 5 tape an episode of the Soul Train Show where they perform “Get It Together”, “Dancing Machine”, “You’re in Good Hands” (by Jermaine), “With A child’s Heart” (by Michael) & “Don’t Say Goodbye Again”. The episode is aired on November 17.
